Scan tool

Has anybody got a scan tool to work on a 3rd gen? I bought a Bosch 1300 obd1 and 2 compatible, it won't communicate.

Re: Scan tool

I know there not easy to find but everyone with a 3rd gen should own a gm Tech1. When I had those annoying code 33/34's this thing was amazing in finding the vacuum leak.

I see a couple on ebay but I also see cartridges, how do I know what I need? It's around $400 and don't wanna waste money, this would be great for my C4 as well.

Re: Scan tool

You will need the cartridge for your car. I believe there is a cartridge for every division so the Chevy one should do both of your cars. Invaluable item though. Easy to use.

Thanks for the info! I have at least one option to look for, hopefully I can find everything I need. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Re: Scan tool

I asked about the same thing a little while back and many members recommended using an old lap top with a Moates ALDL with tuner pro. Not a ton of money either as long as you still have an old lap top, this Spring I will likely try it.

I was also seriously looking at the old snap on MT2500 “brick” but as you mentioned you will have to search through eBay to get exactly what you want for cartridges etc. and condition is concern for any old electronic tool.

Here is the link for my old thread on this:

I think I’ve found something for us! I’ve been doing some research today and found a Bluetooth aldl scanner tool that relays all kinds of info to your android phone or laptop. It’s made by 1320 electronics, found a few videos on YouTube and works really well for what we’re needing. $75 plus shipping and there’s two apps available one is free from 1320 electronics and another that’s $20 called Aldldroid. I’ve ordered the Bluetooth scanner and will report back on this.

I'm using the BT scanner tool from 1320 for about three years with ALDLdroid on my mobile. I also work with TunerPro and a homemade data link cable very often for my custom tune with a Moates Ostrich 2, I also have the original Diacom on my stone age Siemens laptop with MS-DOS 6.22 AND I have the original Tech1. I like the Tech1 the most for simple diagnostics because it is really easy to use and you can rely on it. TunerPro ist a must-have for customs tuning, bin editing etc. Really great tool but a bit complicated to drive around with a big laptop on the passenger seat and it cannot show DTC's. Most of our cars here in germany are V6 3.1 from 91/92, and the Tech1 is a MUST HAVE for the damn idle learn procedure. These engines are ridiculous with their learn procedure, it takes HOURS sometimes until they don't die when steering and braking at the same time in every corner. With the Tech1, it is just soooo easy to do this procedure and I could help A LOT of people with it.

Just find a used Android phone, doesn't have to be top of the line just decent specs, doesn't even have to be active, just need wifi to download app and you're set.

Interesting. I just ordered one of these for my 85 and 91 Firebirds. Take a look at this video:

Thats the exact same product as the Bosch OBD 1300.
What was your problem with communication?
