Switching to a 16197427 to run a 4L80e.

A major question:

Switching to a 16197427 to run a 4L80e.

My read is I can get any 7427 and just reprogram it, is that right??

So can I just load the basic operating system for a 350V8, for a 4L80e.

OR do I NEED to get a 7427 from a truck that had a 4L80e??

I can find 16197427s everywhere reasonable BUT no one can tell me anything about the van or truck they came out of.

They cannot tell me what transmission, engine of even if it was even running when hit.

My old friend who had a junk yard would often say when asked if a part was any good, “Well it was moving when it hit something.” He could then show you to car or truck it came out of. Sadly he passed 7 years ago and wife sold yard.

Re: Switching to a 16197427 to run a 4L80e.

The short answer is yes, all 16197427 pcms are able to run a 4L80e. Shift solenoids are pretty much the same between 4l60e, 4l80e and 1/2/3/4000 series Allison transmission from the same vintage. The connector at the transmission is pinned differently for a 4l80e than a 4l60e, just need to make sure your harness is correct for your trans. Some good info on 16197427 pcms can be found at http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Inj...Information-0D

Great, covers just about everything...

SO say I can get a couple of 7427s of a unknown make and model car/truck.

Then I just need to program the MEMCAL with the correct BINs for say a 350 and a 4L80e??I have a Moates.net Memory Adapter: (see picture)

Question is how much can be done with a custom chip mounted on this device:

Can a custom chip be programed to run a 4L80e and a 350/383 Engine?

As I understand it carries an Eprom/MEMCAL chip as backup/cripple drive??

Does the backup MEMCALneed to be a 350/4L80e or can it be a 350/4l60e chip?? I have a couple of the 350/4L60es on hand from a 165ECM.

If so Now I just need a friendly tuner to make the custom chip.

Also I just discovered that I have a ECM with these service numbers: 16168625 BDJW and 16186695 BDJW.

What are these??

not sure if a 165 will work but a cylinder select jumper and a 305 or 350 , 427 ecm one will work.
the 165 never used a 4l60e just 4l60

Re: Switching to a 16197427 to run a 4L80e.

I DO NOT know where or how I started thinking I was going to run a 165...I rechecked and I have 4 of them: They are 87 to 90 TPI Camaro ECMs and they ran 700R4s, or later named 4L60s...without the E controls.

SO the original plan was to run them for fuel control and the 16168625 to operate the transmission.

It is just lately I have switched to converting a 625 to both transmission and fuel management.

SO how well will a 625 run a 4L80e??

As good as a 7427??

Also can you ID these four MEMCALs?

Rich

PS I cannot believe no one caught me on 165...

Re: Switching to a 16197427 to run a 4L80e.

The BNKM is a 95 350 automatic from
a 427 ecm. Without your bcc I don’t know what they are or a binary read. I have never worked with a 625 so don’t know what it’s capable or as far as injector driving. The 165 was 86-89 tpi .
