built my own burner... but having winbin problems
I've spent the last week or so building an eeprom burner that works through the parallel port. It works flawlessly, and I'm very happy with it so far. So I was about to burn my first eeprom for my car... went to use winbin, and I get the error: Out of Memory.
My only guess is that winbin will not work in windows XP. Also, I'm running version 0.14 of winbin, perhaps there is a newer version that I'm not aware about.

Ok, don't try getting any useful info from my response, cause everybody knows more about this stuff than I do. I'm just starting to think about considering possibly getting into it. What kind of plans did you use to make your eeprom burner? I've been trying to find some info on that, but can't find any confirmation that they will work on 29c256 chips. I'm just worried that the answer is so obvious that I shouldn't have to ask.

Well, I used a circuit similar to this one:
http://www.avalon.net/~tmcintos/atari/at29cprog.html
and I wrote all the code for it myself. Actually did it as a final project for my Operating Systems class. I burned a stock image to one of the eeproms yesterday, but with classes finishing for the semester, I haven't had time to try it out. hopefully tomorrow.
So anyone know any free tuner software I can use that works in XP? or any way to get winbin (which I like) to work in XP ?

Well, sorry nobody's had any input as to your winbin problem. I wish I could help, but haven't even used it myself. I'm thinking about building the circuit you showed me this weekend. As long as I can find all the parts, that shouldn't be a problem for me. I won't have a clue how to operate the burner though (as far as software to make it communicate with a computer). Do you think you could help me out with that?
WinBin really can be a turd, I'd love to see the source code for it some day and see if I can contribute anything to clean it up a bit (I assume it was writen in vb?) anywho the version im running is 0.14 and I do think thats the latest. I get errors if i change injector constants, and dont save before changing something else, Its almost to the point of amusing how many ways you can get winbin to error out
But hey, its free!

But hey, its free!

Sure MikeS, I'd be happy to help you out if you have questions, my burner (changed a couple things on that circuit) works perfectly, and my code (written for windows XP, but should work in any Win system) is decent, and easy to understand. I plan to put more work into it in the future, maybe make it graphical. Anyways, my email is XaviarRahl@yahoo.com so feel free to give me your questions.
So anyone have any other ideas for what I should use to tune ? Which ones are you guys using... which is the most cost efficient? (I'm a broke college student with a high performance engine running TPI, and it will only run w/o the MAF because the values are so far off)

You're a broke college student but you can afford Windows XP?
On the DIY EFI site there is also a link to promedit but I haven't been able to get it to work.

Tunercat is another choice, but it is expensive. I'm waiting for my tax return before I buy that.

hehehe... Yeah you're not *supposed* to be able to get XP without paying for it...
I'm trying to think of the last piece of software I actually payed for. It was probably the original Diablo.
anyway, yeah it looks like TunerCat might be my only solution, but I'll surely try all my options first.

I wouldn't brag about any pirated software on this board. It sounds you are thinking about 'downloading' TunerCat too, or will this be the first software you have purchased since Diablo?
Just one person's opinion.

That is good to hear. I have never tried TunerCat, but everyone seems to like it. There are freeware editors called Winbin and promedit. I use both of these and they seem to work well on my PC. Just some other options for you.
