Aldl=pin A8 Or A9 730 Ecm

I am repinning 165 harness for 730 ecm the directins i have say
the ALDL wire (pin a8) goes to (pin a8) of the new harness but the ecm and connectors i have there is no wire at (a8) but there
is one at (a9) same color - I have moved that pin to (a8)
should i have or should i have left it at (a9) and assume the directions are wrong?

Thanks for any help.

A8 does not goto pin A8 on the 730, A8 (165) goes to BA8 (730)

165:
A8 (ALDL Serial Diag, Pin E)
A9 (ALDL Diag "test" Term, Pin B)

A9 (165) goest to GE12 (730)

There should be a pin A8 and A9. I don't see how you would not have the Serial Diag wire going to pin A8. Maybe you read the connector wrong

flag time....

A8 and A9 are connected internally. Hence they are the same. BA8 is the same as A8. Need any help I have done this same swap from 165 to 749 which is esentially the same ECM. cheers, Bob

This is copied right off of michael davis's' site:

730 ecm 165 harness
BA1 N/C
BA2 N/C
BA3 N/C
BA4 (MAP +5v ref.) N/A (new sensor/signal)
BA5 (TPS +5v ref.) C14
BA6 (IGN +12v) A6
BA7 N/C
BA8 (ALDL Serial Diag) A8
BA9 N/C
BA10 N/C
BA11 (Fuel Pump relay) A1
BA12 (Sys. GND) A12

MY 165 harness has (A8) and (A9) you are right.
MY 730 has no pin at (BA8) where it suggest you move (A8).
however i had a pin at (BA9) so i just moved that pin to (BA8)
spot on the connector.
I looked several times as we speak and im seeing it right.
It was bought off ebay w/connectors maybe someone moved it
I dont know, but the pin that was supposed to be on the 730
(BA8) was not there and there was one at 730 (BA9) where
the directions say N/C. Thats the one i moved.
Right /wrong??
but was i right by moving it to (BA8)

The 165 pins A8 and A9 are different, however the 730 can use either A8 or A9 for aldl. I tried to take a pic of a 730 I have here to show the traces, but the resolution stinks. Pop yours open and look. Better yet take a meter and do a continuity check between A8 and A9. cheers, Bob

Thanks alot saturn5,
So i guess it is possible for some connectors on the 730 to be diff. than another and would figure i would have the odd one.
Thanks for the help.

No problem, and yes there can be multiple pins that support the same thing. If you open a 730 up and look at the bottom, you'll see several pins that are connected by traces where the various connectors are soldered to the circuit board. Those are circuit dependant, also the software controls the outputs differently as seen by comparing the 730 to a 749. Both are built on the same board and the wiring diagrams are almost copies of each other. An example is the torque converter clutch (TCC) is pin F6 on a 730 running TPI. My 749 running a TPI setup follows the SyTy wiring, TCC is pin F4.
Even though they share the same "mother board" the software controls are different. good luck and swap one wire at a time..LOL, cheers Bob

Well i figured out the problem,The ECM i bought is from a
beretta I think and aparently so is the connectors w/wires
because I found 2 more wires not where they should be.
Yeah,Im deffinitely swapping one at a time and the more i get
swapped over the more of a mess i have - Ive now done a connector and a half and stopping now for the night because im
permenantly crosseyed

I have the same thing. What I did was get a diaram from the donor car and one for the app. I'll be using so to minimize the crossedeyedness! There are quite a few different wires in the wrong places, like they use a three solenoid egr valve. Won't use those wires!

Well i got my data from a shop manual so it's not like I am just making it up. Here is a copy I found online of the page in the shop manual.

Yes, for a 165 A8 and A9 are different. However a 730 can use either for aldl. Both A8 and A9 are connected with a trace on the bottom of the circuit board. Which is what the original question asked.. cheers, Bob
