Hello there

well, i did the 730 swap from my current 165 (87 z28 350 with $6e). I made the adapters per Mike Davis' page. The car starts and dies immediatelly. I can't get an ALDL connection to the 730, and when i plug the 165 back in it works fine. I doublechecked the pinouts on the adapters and they are all good. I get the mil light, key on and the pump primes like it's supposed to. The prom is an ajuj with the mag vss and vats taken out, thats it. Any Ideas?

Thanks

Niko

Did you recalculate the checksum?.

I used Tunerpro, 3.05. I believe it does it at the end prior to saving.

As for the ALDL I think one ECM has it on pin M and the other ECM on pin E.

maybe this will help it is just my .02 cents worth.

I pulled codes yesterday after I pulled codes i dissconected the jumpe and tried to start the car. I would start immediatly then die, wouldn't idle. It ran fine before So I sent a PM to Grumpy asking his oppinion on it. He said that it Sounds like the IAC lost count.

Do the battery disconnect and then take the car for a drive.

Some codes
have a 35 MPH IAC reset, if the IAC just lost count that will cure it.

Well after the battery dissconnect I had to feather the throttle right after the car ignited to keep it running, took a drive and once I hit 35Mph It smoothed Out and no problem Now. Might Try it.

I think that the E pin is 160 baud for both and Mis 8192, but i should be able to get data out of both either way. I also tried to jump pins A and B but the MIL light stays on, does not blink like it's supposed to. I am attaching pictures of the contraption, the comp and memcal are out of a 92 cavalier. If someone sees something that does not make sense let me know.
The issue is not really idle, the car starts and pretty much dies right away, like when it hits the RPM that the ECM takes over. Bad computer maybe, but how are the injector drivers working?

You can't use the Cavalier MEMCAL in a V8. The '730 ECM only supports 8192 baud ALDL.

I don't see any follow up on this, have you changed memcal yet?
Also you cannot use original knock sensor either.

edit:We need spell check on this board.

I don't really have one of those laying around, it is on order, hopefully i get it soon. I jumped the esc harness with the 3.9k ohm resistor, that should take care of the knock sensor.

I tried to run a v6 730 memcal for my swap. The car still started and I was able to get a connection with my scanner, so you may have more problems. All I can suggest is rechecking all connections. I triple checked mine and I still had one wire mixed up, causing the car to run terrible. I was missing a bank of injectors.

You can run a v6 memcal, just knock won't work, neither will limp.

And the timing, and the load calculations will be wrong.
There are alot of things, you *can* do.

I installed the GM memcal and the ALDL works fine now. Car won't start, due to VATS I'M guessing, i don't want to solder on this memcal so ill just have to get one of Craig's adapters or ****** a Hypertech on ebay or something. Thanks for the help all, I'll post the outcome when done

Success. Bad connection to the MAP sensor, probably the adapter harness.

Thanks to all that pitched in.
