870 Prom (HLK)

Ok Here is the problem I am having and Yes I know I need to switch to a 165' ecm but That will come later. My camaro has a 870' ecm and it has the bugged 1985 Prom {HLK} Prom in it which is why I keep getting a flase code 34. I have found the updated prom {HLM} and am going to order it but the prom is only for a 870' Ecm for a 1985 Camaro with the LB9 305V8 Automatic. My car Has a Manual transmision. Will there be any problem with running a Automatic program With a manul car. The Car runs great as long As I don't let it Idle too long then I get the code 34 because of the bugged prom. Now when driving and the code is stored in the ecm and I push in the Clutch the enging will rev up and down sorta of a surging effect only happens when I take foot of of accelator. Could this be caused buy the code 34 or the fact that It is a manual running a Automatic Bin. Any help would be benifical.

Very well could be.
The throttle follower stuff is usually much different auto -> manual.

No, the manual trans was not avialable in 85 or 86, the ones they had wouldn't hold up to the engine, in either the Camaro or the Corvette.

I would guess the biggest problems you'd have using an auto .bin would be idle issues (as Grumpy metioned) and the ck eng light, because the TCC would bee seen as malfunctioning.

The Ck. Eng Light is because of the (HLK) Bugged Prom. I can drive the car for like 2 hours staright and no Ck. ENg Light, but if i pull up to a stop light and sit for a few minutes the Ck. Eng light comes on and then I get the surging, probally because of it being in Limp home mode i would guess.

I think I am just going to order the updated prom (HLM) and see if it fixes it, but later down the road when I switch to a 165' I want to find a 6E Bin that is from a 305/5-speed car. What all vechicles did the 165' come in so I can go to the junkyard and look?

Yes, you currently are getting a false code 34 from the chip, what I meant was with an auto bin in a manual car you'd get a ck eng light because it wouldn't get any feedback from the TCC, since a manual doesn't have one.

I never got any surging with my car from the false code 34, you may be experiancing the TCC hunting and causing a surge feeling, that was another problem addressed in the new chips.

Thank You Morley and Grumpy for your in put. I am just going to order the new Chip and Live with the results untill I can find a 165 ECM at a junk yard or from some one on here that dosen't cost much. The junk yards here only sell JUNK nothing works I tried 7 ECM on a buddys car that takes a 165 using his chip and the chip that came with them and they were all bad two of them had that Burning Electronis smell right before they let out the factory installed smoke out.
