Odd result of auto to manual tranny swap

With the auto in the car, the engine would rev up to 6,000 rpm before the rev limiter would kick in. Now, with the manual in it, I can't rev above 5,000 rpm. I have an 6a MSD and have not changed the eprom in the car. ecm is 302 and eprom is $3a.
Any thoughts?

TCC?.
Might look to see what happened to the wiring for that.

The wiring is still there just not plugged into anything. What would the TCC have to do with the rev limiter?

Well, what has changed since you removed the Automagic?

The TCC is unplugged, the PRNDL switch isn't operational anymore, etc.

Seems to me, since the car starts, the PRNDL switch is in the Park or neutral position.

Try putting it in the Drive position and see what happens.

Does it run strong to 5000 rpm, or is it bogging and running crappy?

I believe that the ecm uses the same output for the manual trans shift light, and to control the tcc. Might control or tie into the factory rev limiter somewhere also, or maybe that output needs to see a certain amount of resistance from the tcc or bulb, or it activates a default mode. Maybe that's what grumpy was getting at?

Let us know how it turns out

If it was shorting to power, when trying to turn on the TCC or shift light the ecm wouldn't like that. Voltage spiking an ecm can lead to lots of weird problems.

Ugh...this doesn't bode well. I may have exactly the same problem.
What mask are you using? Oops...just saw $3A. I am using $61. I think there is a bit in $61 I can unset to tell the ECM to use that output to turn on a shift light or something similar. Maybe yours has a similar bit setting.
Just a thought.

Sounds like he needs to burn a chip.

The TCC connector should just dangle. It shouldn't short on anything.

I really think he aught to burn a manual chip. I've run auto bins in my car and there is all sorts of driveability issues.

Any thoughts on where I can get my hands on a manual bin? Also, I rewired the park/neutral switch. I jumpered the the circuit to start my car and also wired in the reverse lights to the trans. I know there is a switch on the clutch pedal for this circuit in a manual setup, I just haven't wired it in yet.

I noticed two main things. When the car is in open loop, it runs like crap and the tach signal breaks up above 5000rpm. It likes to idle at 2000rpm when in neutral (or out of gear). Once the temp rises and the car goes to closed loop, it runs much better. The engine will run up to 6000rpm before the rev limtier cuts in. I also found a table involving the TCC and retarding timing. I zeroed out all of the valves of that table and it runs much better when in closed loop. Can I use the $61 bin w/ my ecm (302) or would I have to get a different ecm?

And what does the shift light have to do w/ the ecm? Maybe this is what I am missing.

No, $61 probably won't work with your ECM. I just put that there for a comparison.
