Moates Ostrich

hey guys whats up? im building a 350 tpi for my 91RS and i was wondering how well the Moates Ostrich worked. im VERY new to tuning and i need to know if it will be simple enough for me to work with on my cars. before i tune the camaro i will try and use my beretta as a practice car just so i dont screw up the camaro later ha ha. and if you have any suggestion for an ECU that works best with TPI let me know also! Thanks!! you rock!

Use a 730 for your 91, and I really like my Ostrich - much quicker than always burning proms.

from my understanding the ostrich plugs into a special chip you solder into your ECU and then you can "burn" the chip that plugs into that one.....http://www.moates.net/product_info.php?products_id=57
thats the link to the site. what is a 730 ECU???

No, the Ostrich does not burn chips. You will probably eventually want a burner like the Moates Flash-n-Burn, or just go the Autoprom to begin with if you have the extra $$ laying around. I started with a FnB, then got tired of the constant chip burning and bought the Ostrich last year. Haven't burned a chip for my car since, I'm running the Ostrich all the time.

so are you saying the ostrich just replaces the chip? and you have to leave it plugged in?

Yep. No soldering is required either on the 730 ECM. You have to have the Moates adapter (G1 I think). You unplug your memcal, put it on the adapter, plug the Ostrich into the adapter, and plug the adapter into the ECM where the memcal used to be. The Ostrich has it's own 30 year or so life battery, so it retains your programming changes.

Check out www.moates.net, all these questions are answered there.

Check the tech articles, all I know for sure is the 91-92 (speed density) cars, but pretty sure the Ostrich will work on a lot of other years as well.....

Yep as Vern says..............I've had it installed since last May and have not taken it out since. Plug in a usb cable is all it takes to tune other than datalogging.
