little help on ECM/MEMCAL
let me preface this by saying i hope this is the right board, and if not sorry and can someone point me where to properly post this?? kind of new to the ecm game. i have a 305 TPI i am trying to identify original year and whatnot. its in a jeep i bought. i got the computer out and pulled out the memcal. it appears to be in a remanufactured computer. (I am a total newbie to this chip/computer deal, so if you going to hate please go a little easy? thanks)
sticker on computer box
number: 7-7730
calibration code: 0998km
inside box, on metal right next to memcal when removed
0773000980230038 REMFG
on side of memcal, black part
68767 36298 1
on silver sticker inside top hole
line 1: AXXB
line 2: 1616
line 3: 3062
the two small chips inside are covered by the other piece...

ECM is 1227730, the AXXB is the program code for the 5.0L "LB9" engine.
Used with 700R4 trans (automatic)
The years on that ECM were 90-92 IIRC, that program "Bin" AXXB is 1991.

Thanks so much man. bought a jeep and all the prior owner could tell me was 305 TPI camaro motor. unknown year, etc. and this ecm and prom stuff is something i have never done before. when i opened the case and didn't find 122730 printed somewhere nice and easy for me i didn't know what was goin on.
have ben having all sorts of problems with TPS and MAP sensor inputs and the like. hoping to get into datalogging and whatnot

Do the reset procedures on the TPS and IAC from the tech articles off the main page. If they are goofed up it will cause all kinds of annoying problems.
Then start picking away at other sensor issues.
Logging them , if you can do it makes it easy to see if they are working within the proper ranges.

i adjusted the TPS, but now it for some reason has gone up to an idle output of 4.8 vdc, so that should be bad. the other code that comes up is 33. any idea if the TPS being horribly out of wack would cause the MAP sensor issue?

a real rough idle can set the MAP errors off. I usually get one of the two MAP errors when I'm initially setting the TPS and the idle gets rough and I stall it.
Once its adjusted and the idle smooths out it should not repeat unless there is a vac line problem or the sensor is just shot due to moisture in it or something.
33 is MAP voltage is high indicating low vacuum so maybe the line is loose or came off.
Pull the ECM fuse or disconnect the battery to clear the memory once the idle is set.

i have heard about the rough idle issue. the TPS might not have had a chance to get re-acquired into the ECM. i dont believe i have a vacuum leak, tried using starting fluid around all the connections. the MAP sensor is below the plenum sue to prior owner doing some interesting wiring, have to get at that this weekend. going to buy a new TPS shortly, will post results.

ok...for anyone that cares my TPS was intermittetently faulty. i got a new one and so far it runs like a champ. no highway time or anything yet, but i've got a good feeling anyways.. that should count for something. made the code 33 dissapear anyways

Re: little help on ECM/MEMCAL
There is lots of posts here in 3GO on what to purchase for your need. Do a search and you will find. As for what it takes to do it - time, lots and lots of time.
