ARAP long crank times......

I've tried changing crank timing, fuel several different ways and it still has the longer crank times. Has anyone figured this out yet? Give me some direction to look in? I'm getting to the point of considering trying the APYU and transferring my already tuned tables to it....this is on an 86 vette-still maf. Thanks for any input.

What year Memcals are you using? I have the same prob, I was think for a while that the 88 memcals differ from the 89. I don't know much about memcals, but maybe 89s are wired knowing that the cold start injector is not there???

I am using an 88 memcal with the ARAP bin and it has longer crank time than the stock 88 bin. It is so bad that I am considering going back to the 88 bin and reconnecting the 9th injector.

Try hooking the 9th injector back up.
That might give a direction to look in.
ie if fuel related.

Does the motor spin over readily?.
There generally is a min crank speed the ecm needs to see.

My motor turns over like the coil wire is unpluged, it's not slow by no means. I have noticed that if I start the car right after shuting it off, then it fires right up.

I have experienced the same problem with my setup I have now. I am currently running the a stock 87 IROCZ computer which I believe is the 165. I have the TPIS mini ram, so I don't have the 9th injector. I also have a TPIS Magnum V or VI prom (AKA junk) and my problem sounds like everyone else. If I leave the car for a day or two and don't start it, I have to crank like a sob to start. I have to crank, stop let the fuel pump pressurize again, then crank again, then stop, crank again and it starts no problem and runs fine. If I stop the car and come back in a few hours it fires right back up on the first crank. I haven't been able to figure this one out, and I have no idea what year memcal TPIS uses to make their PROM. From what everyone is saying this could be a problem. I have yet to check the injectors with a noid light during cranking, cause shouldn't they spray a little. I was under the impression the cars without the 9 th injector had something in the PROM or memcal to give that little squirt of fuel to start the vehicle?? Or am I mis informed

Jay

Grumpy- Yes I've tried it with and without the cold start inj. plugged in and with about every combo I can think of. The starter spins it right up; I have a hi-torque ministarter so it actually spins it a little faster than the stock one did. Tomorrow I'm going to try the APYU bin and see what that does. I realize that the ARAP bin is supposed to be the most "refined code"? but shouldn't any 89 code be as good???? And thanks for lettin' all of us pick your brain.
jnjspdshop-yes, if you don't have the cold start injector then the program needs to allow for that by adding a little fuel when cold. As far as the TPIS prom I have no idea what they start with.

I'm useing a 87 305 memcal, and don't see any differance. Starts right up, i've also tried it with and without the 9th injector hooked up.I haven't changed anything except injector size, fan on/off, and idel rpms.

I don't know if this is just a coincidence, but I copied the "Injector Pulse Width Correction vs. Battery Voltage" and the "Warm IAC Park" table from my stock prom, and at least for me that reduced the problem somewhat....
