So I scored me a Willem programmer from eBay recently, along with a SST 27SF512 chip. I can read data off the chip just fine, and erasing works with proper jumper settings. However, whenever I try to write, I get a "Error at 0x000000 Chip = 0x00 buffer = 0x02". I've seen some people on the board mention using Willems, so has anyone been able to get theirs to work?

From what I gather, it seems to be a power issue. I'm using the USB port for power and I think I will need to get me a 12V 300mA DC adapter to get this thing to work. While I look for one, does anyone have any suggestions?

Edit: It lives!! I just downloaded version 0.97ja from *Link* and it flashed just fine!

 

I just purchased a new Willem programmer and fixed my old one as well. You'll need to download his latest 0.97ja program from his site and it'll work. I had the same issue.

 

Mine came with version 0.98D2, should I get 0.97ja anyways? Also, is your stuff USB powered?

 

I have the same programmer and chips. I'm using the Parallel port and USB power. Mine works, but I don't recall which version of the program I have (I can post it later). Your power sounds like it is okay from the USB if you can erase chips. Do you have the "safety jumper" removed for programming? All the LED's in the "default" settings? Correct chip selection in the program? Correct DIP switch settings? That's all I can think of, unless it's a program issue.

 

Make sure you jumper the "erase" jumper back to normal before trying to write as well.

I did follow the manual and set everything it specified. Made sure the correct chip is selected, and the DIP switch is set up just like the software specifies. I also made sure to move the jumper back to where software shows it after erasing the chip.

 

If we're talking about the same Willem Programmer, the safety jumper is the one between the reset/chip select buttons and next to the ZIF lever. It needs to be removed when programming (and erasing, I thought...).

Okay... That one is different from the one I have. I'm not sure where to go from here. Sorry.

Edit: Mine is the "enhanced" one, apparently. I forgot that little detail in the name and thought we were talking about the same thing.

 

I don't know if it will help you or not, but I checked and I am running the 0.97ja version of the program. It could be worth a shot at least.

I found version 0.98D5 (as opposed to mine 0.98D2) on sivava.com, but that has the exact same problem. Where did you get your version from? I can't seem to find a link to it anywhere.

I see you got it working..how ever...i had intermitent problems all the time with mine. seems dip switches fail often.

I was able to repair mine for a few bucks.

i removed stock dip switches, installed socket and new dip switches.

I ordered spare dip switch for future failure.

works great othern then the stock dip switches

 

I personally gave up on my willem, and picked up a moates BURN1 programmer instead -- Best move I've made to date. Way more convenient working off soley USB, and integration with TunerPro RT. Also seems to be far more consistant, and stable than the willem's programming was. I've never had a failed chip flashing, while every other one with the willem failed.

 

I haven't had any problems with my Willem, at least so far. I think it's a great "budget" programmer.
