erratic behavior with autoprom?
erratic behavior with autoprom?
Hi
Just started up my new freshbuild engine with the autoprom connected, using tunercat and datamaster to get the tune right.
BUT sometimes ( erratic ) the idle goes down and the SES light comes on just for 4-5sec, then its back to normal, and ses light goes off.
Anyone experinense this with the autoprom?
One other thought is bad ground somewhere. But will that make the fault be so erratic?
Thanks for your time.

Plug a chip in and see if the problem persists. If so, a bad ground sounds reasonable. Or an intermittent sensor, etc. Does a code persist when this happens?
I does "feel" likes the ECM is more stabel when I use the autoprom but NOT scan it vs when i use datamaster to scan.
( sorry for the bad english ).

The flickering light could be where it is actually stalling and then catching itself and restarting. I've seen that happen before. That would also not set a check engine code since there was no error to report.
And your English is fine! I'm actually impressed with it. And it is on H3LL of a lot better than my Swedish!

Hi all
i have the exact problem with my Ostrich....with a chip, the car runs fine, with the ostrich, the SES flickers from time to time, engine cut out, Datamaster looses connection, than catches up....
i think, the cable, that runs from the Ostrich to the chip pick up some RF noises from the ignition...
i tried to wrap it with aluminium foil, even grounded it, but that didntr help much...maybe a bit...
with in-car ECM the Ostrich works real fine...

Sometimes it can be hard to express your self in a foreign language. Im not following you complete when you say "The flickering light could be where it is actually stalling and then catching itself and restarting". Why would the car do that? Does the ECM restart it self when something isent right?

I meant that the idle may be dropping low enough that the engine dies briefly but the rpm's are high enough that the it restarts since their is still fuel flowing. Kind of like when you pop the clutch on a rolling car how the motor will usually start if the car is rolling fast enough. Just a long shot, but might be worth looking into a little more... How low are the rpm's when this happens?

Then the rpm starts to drop and the SES light comes on. The car almsot die, then the SES light goes off and the car goes up to the desire idel rpm ( 800 ).

Any update on this? I was hoping some of the gurus would offer some advice and I might learn a bit more on this DIY stuff. Sorry I couldn't offer additional help, but it looks like you're beyond my level of knowledge....
Hi
Well i havent got a change to do anymore testing. I wait for a new TB to be installed, and a new IAC.
What have done is to doubel check the grounding. I will let you know how i goes m8.
