92 formula going turbo what to do for management

Heard you can use a 3 bar map or cyclone computer. With the stock computer how would you tune for boost? I hope this isnt another huge problem. I have the apu1 and all the stuff to do real time tuning and a innovative wide band with rpm recording so can get it all dialed in. I had my 383 n/a set up perfect. 14.5 cruizing and 12.5 wot. Got 24 mpg hwy and 18 mixed driving on a 11 sec car. So tuning wont be a problem but knowing how to make the turbo happy is.

Re: 92 formula going turbo what to do for management

You can use the cyclone (sy/ty) code ($58) on your current ECM. This is 2-bar software.

There is also the code $59 project which is enhanced $58 code. This is 3-bar software.

There are xdf files for both. Probably ads files too (but I can't promise this).

Re: 92 formula going turbo what to do for management

getting a little tech for me. So I can use that def file to write a complete program and plug it right up to my ecm? I read that turboedtpi repinned and used the ecm on his but if you dont have to I am all for it. easier the better and so far none of this has been easy. Only way for that is to own a damn mustang. you got it made if you want to turbo them.but I like going fast and having a good looking car. So the bird stays and I battle it to the first fire of the new setup.

Re: 92 formula going turbo what to do for management

I run code 59 on my stock 730 ecm and love it. just move like 3 pins add one for your wide band input. dump a starter bin in with the xdf. from their board. add a 3 bar map and your good to go. they even have an excel file set up as an auto tune, I ran my ve table thru that and by the 3rd time the n/a map was dead on and running better than I ever got outta my old dfi set up. I'll warn you thou... do lots of searches and read a ton before you start but the actucal work and tuning is easy as could be. I dare say once you understand what's going on and why.(things like what a .xdf,.adl and .bin are) its easier than the mustang tuneing stuff that I've seen. I never would have believed that drivablity could be this good with a 3 bar. and once your happy with the tune, you can turn on the wb control and it will look at your a/f table and make changes so it runs that number. but they say its best to get the open loop tune good first, incase your wideband craps out. I'm pretty close to that with my tune and before a month ago I knew nothing at all about burning chips. just tuning my old gen 6 setup. if you need lowz injectors there is ways to do that too, its all on here and the code59.org board. oh and if you google the p4 document. that has more info than my head can take at this point but I'm working thru it.

if you dont mind me asking what are you running for a set up and what car? do you have a $59 bin you can email over?lt1z350@bellsouth.net if so. where do I need to go to learn more on it. Anything you can do to get me jump started would be great and hopefully I can return the favor some how. I build transmissions for a living so if you ever need help or parts shoot me a email and I will help out.I have had great luck on my current setup so one I get the hardware all in place am sure I get get it to run good with some time just need to get it all in place first. Look forward to any other stuff you can send my way.

sure, i can e mail you mine to start with when i get home later, or you can just go to the site code59.org and they are all listed there for free. just pick one thats close to your injector size and change it to a v8 (its shown on the site how to do it but pretty much its just going to that box in tunerpro and typing in 00 instead of what's there now for the V6)and go from there.

either way, the repin is up in the stickies here or do a search over there and there's a thread about it. both are right.. just read threw all the posts in which ever one you use. some good info along the way.

i use tuner pro rt and don't know anything about tunercat but it prob works too.

my set up is a 350 42# injectors, super ram small ish cam that works well with the blower. its a d1 making alomst 18lbs at 6500. my bin would prob be an ok place to start if your setup is close to mine. just know that only 100kph and less is tuned as of now. just let me know and i'll send it to you. also once it is a good tune, i will post it up as a starter bin over there for anyone to try. prob be a few weeks thou.

Re: 92 formula going turbo what to do for management

I have a 383 and 36 lbs injectors but not sure if they will be enough yet I had them from my lt1 car that needed them n/a and going to turbo on it too and will need something like 96lbs for that from what I have been told. Any way I reg. over at the code 59 and got the xdf and opened a stock cyclone bin and it was all screwed up I dont know if it is corrupt or what is wrong. If you could email yours so I can look at it and get started changing stuff up for my car that would be great. I have a couple of weeks of building a header set up before the turbo goes on so will get the tune close as it all comes together so I have a good starting point. So far what I have read the $59 stuff seems to make cars run better than the factory 8d did. Not sure why but so many say they are way happier with the new stuff. I have yet to find what you need to repin and also where do you get a 3 bar map? Is it a stock replacement you can just go get at the local auto store for a specific vehicle? Thanks for the help. This was something I wasnt looking forward to but you have made it alot easier on me. Just need to learn all the tuning lingo of the $59 so I dont tear up a motor over it.

Re: 92 formula going turbo what to do for management

hmmm, let me try to find you one. i'm at work and don't have mine, plus i had to change the ve tables a ton since their's are turbo like yours, and mine is superchaged. they make boost in totally different parts of the map. and the reason i believe it seems to run so well is they have made the ve map huge!! so even with a 3bar you have a lot of points to tune off from.

what part number 3bar map is here.. i say go with the gm but i had one laying around from an autometer gauge. they all work fine.

http://www.code59.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=599

how to repin your 730 is here, but he doesn't come up with teh right answer till the end, so read it all. plus its up top in the stickies. i'll find that one for you too

http://www.code59.org/forum/topic.as...Terms=73,repin

here's the starter bin forum
http://www.code59.org/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=51

and here's the thread about the bin that i chose to start with. i had to turn the base pluse constaint down a bit for my 42's so it should be about right for your 36's. the bpc is about the only weird thing in $59, its listed as egr something.(F28 is the table's F name) i can't remember right now, but it doesn't do egr it sets the base for the fuel maps ve table. and can be upped above 100kph so you don't max out the ve table under boost. just do a search over there for BPC and they explain it much better than i even could. but pretty much start your car and lower the numbers in f28 till you get the idle a/f you want and then change the ve tables from there.

http://www.code59.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=720

i believe the first post has been edited to have the newest bin file.

as for changing to a v8.

Yep all you need to do is change the Cylinder Select from 6 to 8 cylinder (Set it to 00 for 8 Cylinder) and then there is a V8 Fuel Cuttoff Table (Fuel Cutoff (8 cyl) (KFRPMLOW, KFRPMHI)) in the fuel section.
thats from this thread. http://www.code59.org/forum/topic.as...s=change,to,v8

hope that helps some and as said, i'm new and just learning too. but its out there man.

Re: 92 formula going turbo what to do for management

Either start with the 33 lb bin I made or WyoSylcones 40lb. You might need to play with the timing a little on your V8 since the timing in those chips are more for the Syty CAM which is pretty mild. Like ??? said make sure you change the bin to be V8.

If you get stuck post here or at code59.org and someone will help you out. Also let us know where you get stuck. We are trying to clean up some of the post and make it more user friendly so new users don't have to read for days to get caught up. ??? if you could consolidate some information into a a single post on 59.org that would be great since you just started to use it.

The ECU/XDF needs to match the BIN MaskId. IOW: a $59 ECU/XDF HAS to be used on a $59 BIN.

And a $58 ECU/XDF HAS to be used on a $58 BIN.

Switching definition files between BINs with different MaskIds doesn't work.

A reminder for all in this thread, asking for modified BINs is not allowed on DIY_PROM. Comes under PROM begging.

However, asking for a stock BIN or where to find them is OK.

RBob.

Re: 92 formula going turbo what to do for management

wow this has been great. I really appreciate all the help. If I got this much help with finding turbo headers for the car it would be done..lol. I know begging isnt allowed and why I asked and didnt push the issue. I would give any of my n/a stuff that I have to help anyone get going. But I know we need to keep it under control so it doesnt turn into a bunch of people just looking for a free ride when someone spent hrs of time trying to figure it out. I hope that I can return the favor at some point so if anyone needs any transmission help or pointers on how I made my 700r4 live 2 years and still going on a car that makes over 550rwhp on the bottle I will be glad to help. I also build for a living at aamco and can help with any other stuff. I have access to tons of parts too. I have quite a few turbo 350s and chevy bell 400s right now and know parts are getting harder to find. Only one powerglide and tons of 700s and 4l60es. Dont normally get this much help on something on the first post and just really appreciate the help. I had a harder time with n/a questions when I first starter tuning 4 years ago.Just shoot me an email for any questions off topic here.
