once again another newbie wanting to tune

so i've been reading a ton of articles off this site!! just a fantastic site for us to learn off of. thank you all for great posts.

i've got a few questions still...well alot but ill learn in time im sure. im running the 8747 ecm. a fullsize chevy truck yes. i've been dealing with affordable fuel injection (anyone know that company?) for nearly 2 years trying to get a good tuned chip with no luck yet. so i decided to try my own luck. i haven't bought any hardware to burn yet. just want to get my mind in the right place first.

im sure ill leave some info out that you may need to help me so just get back to me and ill let you know about it.

a few questions i have are: i have tunerpro rt now, should i use my bin i pull off of the chip i have as a base to go off? or what bin off moates to use? also what definition file to use?

i understand about changing ve tables and timing tables (obviously will be a deeper subject once i really start getting into it for myself). thought i was understanding everything pretty well until i came across talk of locations inside the bin like the talk of "location 0x0ff" or things like that? what posts can i look at to understand this? i've searched but it just leads me to posts that talk about it like i should understand it. im totally lost with this lingo. i know its hex but how does that work with finding stuff in the bin? do i need to know these things?

also people talk about the flash and burn at moates but i've found the burn 2. what does everyone think about that burner?

and anything else that anyone has a thought on about a newbie getting started please speak up.

Re: once again another newbie wanting to tune

You dont really need to understand hex. Tunerpro RT takes care of that. You can pick it up if you want. Flash & Burn is the software you need to make the Burn 2 work. I'm a noob myself but 5 minutes after receiving the Burn 2 I had burned my first chip. Great tools to have. I cant help on the specifics of your tune though, I have an entirely different vehicle.

Re: once again another newbie wanting to tune

awesome any help along the way would be great! ill be needing help, im sure along the way. so then ill just need to buy the burn 2 hardware then and then flash and burn is just the software with it?

what is needed for me to be able to use a eeprom with my ecm? what chip will i need? i got a little confused with following that post...

so without tunerpro, hex is the only way to read a bin? with the math that is

Re: once again another newbie wanting to tune

fyi, its a 85 chevy k5 blazer. im running the gm crate 350 h.o. motor. heated o2, a 350 tb out of a 91 suburban 3/4 ton (thus the hd setup ecm 8747) no knock sensor or vss. if i knew what i know now (after reading on this site) i would of had the harness made with a knock sensor but at the time i figured less sensors to go wrong the better. i hope that doesn't hurt me too bad in the long run.

i know that this is a small tb for my motor but im into the whole rock crawling scene so i just need low end power not really the go go go power of most of you guys out there. im usually real easy and low in the rpm band so im hoping to be able to tune this tb for just some everyday driving and wheelin. can it be done?

Re: once again another newbie wanting to tune

dynamic efi makes the ebl, its a plug-n-play ecm. you tune it and datalog through the same cable and comes with bins to start with. Rbob here on thirdgen makes it.. i wish i had it instead of the 7427

Re: once again another newbie wanting to tune

ya that sounds real nice! just one problem. on a super tight budget with to little ones in the house now.

i'd really like to just get this running decent enough as is with what i have. probably upgrade to bbc injectors later but for now i really need to try and stick with what i have. not the best option i know but i think its what im gonna have to do

Re: once again another newbie wanting to tune

well do you have any tuning equipment yet? by the time you get everything you need you are almost to the point you could buy the ebl.

is it a stock TBI350 or what? mods?

thats a good point. i fugure i can buy a burner, the adapter for my ecm to be able to use the eeproms, along with a couple chips for less than $300. is the edl less than that? what else is needed with the edl to tune?

as far as i know there are no mods to this tbi. just a stock 3/4 ton 350 suburban tb. the guy that was trying to tune a chip for me (from affordable fuel injection) believed that they were cop car injectors. i doubt they are

Re: once again another newbie wanting to tune

the ebl only needs a laptop. it comes with everything you need. i think its $450 for the complete ecm. but if your soldering skills are good then you can buy the circuit board and install it in your ecm to save some cash.

check it out

Re: once again another newbie wanting to tune

not only will you need a burner for chips but do you have a have to datalog to be able to see your changes? If not you may want the dynefi. it allows datalogging and programing all in one price

Re: once again another newbie wanting to tune

ok i think im gonna go with the burn 2 and the g2 adapter with a couple flash chips. ill be spending less money than for the ebl. seems like the ebl would make tuning alot easier and faster, but i have to go with the cheaper one.

anyone using the 8747 ecm with this setup? which flash chips do i need to get?
