Code$59 and manual trans question
Anyone using code59 with a manual transmission? Just wondering what needs to be changed in the bin for a manual transmission. Thanks.

Check the box for manual transmission. Done.
usually the tune will be a little different for a manual trans equipped vehicle than an automatic, but that would be stuff that would need tuning anyway and no one way is for auto and one is for manual thing, other than teh flag for manual trans.

Wow I feel dumb. Didn't even realize that was there. I'm new to this code59 stuff as you can tell. Thanks Six! Do you know anything about why code59.org is down? I tried to research this over there but it's not connecting at all.

Oh dang, sure picked a bad time to do the move. Right when I'm starting to tune my 406 turbo Do you know if they keep their downloads in an external file server?

So here's a question for you code59 gurus, what changes are made in the bin just by selecting manual over automatic?

OK I'm having an issue now with the vehicle stalling when coming to a stop. I did some datalogging in Tunerpro and noticed that there is no speed registering at all in ALDL values. It also says "stopped" under "vehicle moving flag" while im driving down the road. Do the VSS wires have to be repinned when using $59 on a 7730? Also during idle I noticed IAC steps are at 0 and gradually go up when throttle is given. Is that normal?

Re: Code$59 and manual trans question
As for the VSS, just a guess, the BIN you are using is possibly set for an optical VSS. Look for this flag and set it:
" ¬ Magnetic Speed Sensor "
See if that works to have the ECM seeing vehicle speed.

Thanks Rbob, i'll check it when I get home from work. Do you know what changes are made when "manual " is selected for transmission in $59? I'm not sure if by doing that does it disable TCC and all the other functions related to auto trans.

On my 89 i believe i just took the vss signal from speedo and pinned it in the location in the 730 ecm for vss. Speedo worked fine although it was inaccurate due to wrong speedo gears in trans. But i also had engine shutoff problems in hard stopping. Not sure what that was but likely something with fuel tune plus iac settings my guess. Not sure. Didnt happen all the time tho
I didnt have magnetic speedo flag set

What about your IAC steps? Did yours show 0 steps at idle? Im using the bin you sent me a while back with a few minor changes. Idk if the IAC motor is supposed to work the same in $8D as it does in $59. I just find it weird that it stays at zero until I give it throttle then steps gradually go up to around 12-20 steps depending on throttle angle. In $8d the steps hover around 20-35 at idle. I pulled troublecodes and im getting codes 12, 14, 15, 21, 24 and 42. I can understand codes 12(normal for diagnostic mode), 14 and 15(coolant temp sensor high/low(I have a custom dash so the coolant gauge has its own sensor)) and 42 cuz I disconnected the EST to set base timing. Code 24 is the VSS. I'm assuming that the stalling can be attributed to the ECM not getting a VSS signal correct?

Ok cool let me know what you see. I'm gonna try and figure out this VSS issue on the T56. It was working fine in the other car. I'm hoping I didn't hook the VSS wires backwards in the ECM. Some say it doesn't matter but I think it does matter on the HI and LO side.

Re: Code$59 and manual trans question
I would think that's more normal than the 0 steps im getting. Maybe the valve is bad or needs to be repinned at the ECM

There are some changes to the IAC logic which appear to be minor. But ya' never know.

The CTS is a separate unit just for the ECM, need to install it. The CTS is one of the most important sensors to have operating correctly. As the ECM doesn't have a decent default for it.
Having a TPS code isn't helping either. At a minimum I would disconnect the battery (or pull fuse) for 10 minutes or so to erase the codes. Then see which ones return.

Absolutely need to correct the error codes. Code 24 is due to the ECM not seeing the VSS.

Re: Code$59 and manual trans question
Yes, the CTS should be located on the front of the TPI intake. Has two wires, yellow & a black. It is possible that the CTS is bad, getting both low & high codes means that the ECM sees it shorted at times and open at other times.

ok, so the one in the cylinder head is just for the gauge and wouldn't throw a code correct?

Re: Code$59 and manual trans question
The newer non adjustable TPS shows .77v at idle, probably too high setting a code. I have another adjustable TPS which I set to .54v but I get a stumble during light accel. Probably has something to do with AE pump shot. As far as the coolant temp sensor goes, isn't the sensor on the side of the driver side cylinder head used for the coolant gauge on the IP? I put the autometer coolant sensor in its place there. I always thought the ECM used the coolant sending unit located at the front of the TPI intake manifold for calculations. I'll clear all codes and see which ones return. If the coolant one returns then ill relocate the autometer sensor somewhere else.

that's what I figured, all these codes im pulling up on my autoxray 6000 scanner configured to a 1991 syclone 8th digit Z. Does that sound right?

Re: Code$59 and manual trans question
Ok thanks Six, So here's an update- I selected "magnetic speed sensor" in the flag table, changed "Road speed sensor Constant" to 4000ppm(it was set to 2000ppm)loaded the bin to the Ostrich and jacked up the rear tires. I turned the key on engine off and turned the rear tires. The Autometer speedo is registering a speed but the ECM is still not seeing a movement. I set the Road speed constant back to 2000ppm and spun the tires again and still no signal to the ecm. Should I suspect the VSS may be bad? Keep in mind the harness in the car was for an automatic and i currently have a t56 installed. Don't know if that has anything to do with why im not getting a signal to the ECM.
**Edit - From what I'm reading in other threads I need to convert the VSS signal from the T56 to a signal that the 7730 can understand with an SGI5 box. I do happen to have one one handy. I'll install it and see what happens.

Re: Code$59 and manual trans question
If I remember correctly on my 383 setup I think I remember setting the speed constant to 45kppm in order for the ecm to get a reading. I'll have to check that bin to see what I did. It's been so long ago I forget how I got an ecm reading last time without an SGI box.
