Some verification please
So, I've downloaded Tuner Pro RT and acquired an ALDL to usb cable with 160 baud TPI, and 160 baud carb/throttle body options, 10k resistor option and 8192 rate.
I have acquired the correct Bin file, ADS file to ADX file, and ADF file. However, my program, which is running Windows 10, cannot recognize the ALDL cable when I try and configure under Preferences. The computer itself accepts the cable and downloaded it flawlessly without the use of extra driver software. But Tuner pro gives me the same message "checked at 8192 baud rate, cable is connected or not functioning, please disconnect cable from vehicle" (not exact, I don't have it in front of me, but close)
Anyway, my question is, for my vehicle (stats on left are correct- TPI), what should I have the connector set to?
I got the files from Tuner Pros website, the masks were $6. However, the BIN file I questioned due to 3 possible unmarked picks. (But it shouldn't matter anyway, until later).

Ah, I failed to mention that. I had the computer recognize the cable in COM3 on my labtop, and set tuner pros settings to COM3.

Your 89 has a 165 ECM which is notorious for communication problems, quirky at best. You need to switch the 10K resistor into the circuit to start the communications with the 165 then, when communication starts, switch the 10K resistor out of the circuit so the ECM does not stay in diagnostic mode and resumes normal function. HTH!

Re: Some verification please
When you are detecting the cable in Tuner Pro, is it only connected to the computer and not the vehicle at the other end? It needs to be connected to ONLY the computer to be correctly detected.

Re: Some verification please
Good information to know.
Yes, only the connector is connected to the computer, unplugged from the vehicle.
I'm running windows 10.
Also, i have tried all 3 ports on my labtop, disregarding it suggesting port 3. (I still tried port 3 to no avail.)
Downloaded a different ADX. file, although, this did not help.
Connector was set for my specific vehicle.

Re: Some verification please
You have to go to device manager and set the com port number for the cable (you will see it change and add an item when you plug the cable in. Right click on that new item drill down to the port setting & change to the com # you want to use)
