Modded my motor internally, need advice.
Hey guys, I came over from camaroz28.com because I heard this sites PROM board was better than theirs, it appears to be so 
Ok, so Here is what I have. I have an 89 Iroc so its a MAF setup. What I have done is installed pistons that would raise the compression to about 10.3:1 and also installed a cam with @ .500 lift on each side and 218*/224* duration on a 110* LSA. I also have 1 3/4" SLP headers with a 3" exhaust going on, 3.73 gears, AFPR, shift kit, higher stall convertor (still undecided)..... I think thats it.
Now will stock programming support this combo or will I have to have a new chip burned for my application? I REALLY don't want to go to Ed Wright if I don't have to........ $350!
Way too much to spend when its not even gonna be dyno tuned. What do you guys think?

The stock calibration is for a stock engine with your typical misinformed driver. Who likes to drive in the Canadian Tundra and Mojave without ever doing tune ups or oil changes. If this sounds like you then a stock chip will work just fine for you.
If you like drivibility and performance then YOU need to learn how to tune your engine, ie burn chips. For about $200 you can be up and running

Well then! After reeading over that page all I can say is WOW. It seems like an insurmountable task. Somthing I may want to look into in the very near future.

Trust me, the mechanics of "burning" is really quite simple. I can show the average person the "mechanics of burning" in less than 30 minutes.
What takes time is the "tuning" aspect. I've been putting over two years into my tuning, always in the quest of the "better eprom".
This is not to say that it took me two years to get results. Hell no. I was getting noticeable results probably within the first week of eprom burning.
What happened is I learnt HOW MUCH is really inside the eprom and I started concentrating on other things like getting better gas mileage, trying to get my car to perform "optimally" in all weather (-20 to +100), and a variety of elevations (sea level to 3,000+ feet). The deeper you dig, the more you find.
But its all like building a house....you build a good foundatation, and then build up from there. The more time you spend at it, the better the results.
And once you think you REALLY know it, some jerk introduces you to something called "source code" and you begin to learn how to alter the instructions to make the ECM GM never even imagined. But wait a few months for that.

Glenn, I believe that I will be doing this in the very near future. I really must burn my own because I don't have the $$$ to spend on the rediculously high prices these "tuners" charge. $350 and $100 for every subsequent reburn??? I think not. They don't even dyno the car for Gaad's sake!

Cool, we are always glad to help others to learn how to burn eproms and tune their engine.
I do suggest scoping out a lot of the older posts. In fact, set the search to 1 year. A LOT of good stuff has been discussed in the last year or so. Things you probably haven't thougt of. Also, if you have a question on an old post, feel free to ask the question.

Heh, I have been reading this section for the last few days. Needless to say that I have probably logged more hours reading already than I will burning my first chip.
I read the Startup How-to tech article a couple times. I just need to get all the stuff I would need to begin. There are a few things I know that I wanna do on the first burn. Disable VATS, change fan temps and what not. Then I wanna jump straight to the 3D tables
J/k. You will probably be seeing a lot of me here. I am a newbie to the EPROM burning but I have been researching engine combinations and other setups for a couple years over at CamaroZ28.com. Thanks for the warm welcome Glenn. Rock on :rockon:
