I have a 92 firebird and has that key with the chip in it. Anyways its broke it will turn 360 degrees and not do anything. Can I replace it with one that doesn't have the chip or not?

I think you can, but your VATS won't work anymore. This is one of the ideas for getting arounf the VATS if you swap to a carb from FI.

tioga, check my post on the question vat's key value, its long but it may help go to the third suggestion its cheaper and DONT change out your TPI for a carb not just over this anyway.

'87 Monte Carlo SS,with '89 IROC 350,700 trans, blew up 3.73 posi stuck with crappy 2.73's neeed gears! hooker headers, flowmaster 2 1/2" exhaust true dualls, recently installed a set of alum vette heads 58cc, new cam for a paxton, recently installed paxton, OMG need a posi bad. Found a guy who can build me a ford 9" (yep sorry guys) for less than 500 then comes all the goodies such as disk brakes so on and so on, will it ever end?? I hope not!!

 

If your lock cylinder is spinning 360* and not doing anything, then a new one probably won't change a thing. It sounds like the rack and/or sector is busted. The rack is made out of "pot metal" and I see a few of these break. It is what actuates the rod for the ignition switch. When this beaks, it allows the lock cylinder to just spin. Of course if you have been turning the lock cylinder like that, than you probably did break teh wires going to it and will need one now.
