Car won't start
All electronics work but won't start. I replaced the starter thinking this was the problem(it has been clicking for weeks) and still nothing. I get a couple clicks from the black box in the kick panel and something in the engine bay but nothing else. I've checked all fuses, grounds, the alarm(tried with disconnected alarm also). Is there something else I can check? Thanks.
1.Could the key switch in the steering col. not work.( need to jump the starter like advised in engine posts)
2. One guy couldn't start cause of bad ECM
3.Have you switched battery. Mine checks good at autozone but still won't allways crank engine. (lights come on then clicks)
4. there are fuseable links (I believe you could get accesory power without some engine power because more than one wire)that work like a fuse.
Are you positive about the battery?

I got a new battery and still the same thing. I'm going to jack the car back up and jump the starter to see what happens. I will also check any fusable links I see down there. I don't remember seeing any though, where are they exactly?(the ones by the starter)
In the archives it says the fuseable links are in the smaller wires you connected to the starter.
Quote from archive:
When you get under the car and look at the starter, there will be about 3 or 4 wires, they have a black casing around one part of the wire. It's always a good idea to hold both ends and tug just a little to see if the wire is burnt up but the insulation isn't yet.

Depending n the year/model of the car (which was not stated), it could also be a VATS problem if the car is so equipped(sp?).
Also.. to keep from being a vague post... a bad (dead cell) battery will hold it's voltage and all accessories (sp? again) will function "normal" as if nothing is wrong but will die hard when a load is placed on it (ie.. starter).

The car is a 90 RS 305...
a bad (dead cell) battery will hold it's voltage and all accessories (sp? again) will function "normal" as if nothing is wrong but will die hard when a load is placed on it (ie.. starter).
Would the lights get dim or anything else while trying to start if this was the case? I'll go back for another battery if so.
Thanks.

I know the obvious dimming is normal. I'm asking if they will go out, will I notice a difference with a dead cell.

UPDATE
It turns out that it was the neutral safety switch... and they lived happily ever after.
