Wire Problem Arising I think, need some input

Ok, I have a red wire of semi-decent size coming out of my harness near the ignition coil. I believe it used to have a connector in the middle of it, but it appears to have melted, leaving the wire and the metal inside the connection. I bellieve it is a ignition wire on some sort. If you look by the igntion coil, theres a couple wires with a conector on it, and out of the connector it goes to the coil. The other wire with a connector is the red wire i'm referring to. Does anyone know what this wire is to, and why it appears to have melted the connector? If you need a visual guide, i can take a pic and post it to help. Please help me, as I don't wanna fry my car!

Ok, on my my 1989 Iroc, there are several red wires in the location that you have indicated. They go to my underhood light and the air conditioner blower controls. They have nothing to do with the ignition at all.

Hope this helps!!!!

try this, unplug the two wires and start the car(make sure they dont touch anything metal) Check to see if you have any power to your a/c heat blower. If your blower doesnt work then its the same wire I have melted on my car. I am still trying to figure out what is causing it. I have a coupla different electrical problems and its hard to tell if there all related. Let me know if your wire is for the blower and ill let you know what all I have done to see how bad the damage is. Juggie

Juggie, the red wire is the power for my HVAC, you were right. what could be causing this to heat up so much?

well I am not sure. On mine the blower had no third speed fan setting. I replaced the fan speed selector switch in the dash. THen I replaced the high speed blower relay and it still heated up. I fixed everything else with it except that it heated up so much.. If you could replace the fan and see if thats it. A friend of mine who owns his own auto repair bus in Illinois said that the fan motor can still work but due to some type of damage from one of the pieces I replaced It may be shorted out or have burned a winding and still work ok. This would cause the excessive heat in the power wire. I just sold my car so I didnt fix it. good luck with it though. Juggie
