OK Trickster, have you ever seen this one?
Gas gauge started acting up... went waaaaaay past full while driving the other day... somewhat normal, ok probably a ground to the sender...but wait, it starts calming down as I'm driving!!!!
Goes back to @ 3/4 (not sure where it shoulda been... I had just thrown @ 15 bucks in it.) Then when I slow down and the rpms drop so does the gauge!!!. Stop for a corner and accellerate, starts taking off again...!!! WTF?
Now I'm watching as I drive and it does it everytime... goes up on accelleration, down on decelleration...

that is normal for the needle to go up on exceleration and down when stoping.slowing down... evey 3rd gen i have owned has done that....expecialy when it is at around 1/4 tank when you slow down real fast it will go in the red... but again all 3 of my past camaros have done the same thing

Z28monster is correct, you probably just haven't noticed it in the past. One of the contributors to this is the fact that our tanks are not baffled as some of the later models are.

this will swing to 1/2 tank difference. definitely not normal

maybe a sending unit going ont he fritz.. mine will do this ocasionaly also and annoys the hell out of me... also my temp gauge does the same thing but only ounce in a great while.

Doesn't the fuel gauge usually have a dampener? Exactly for this reason? I'm not sure if it is mechanical or electrical (capacitor/resistor), though.
When I switch fuel tanks on my truck, it takes almost a minute for the gauge to indicate the new reading correctly. Dampener at work.
