hey guys im new so be gentle,
ok my prblem is , i have a 1991 RS camaro, 305V8, 5 speed trans , and the prblem is the tach i cannot get it to work when car starts it sweeps all the wat to the end of the guage and stops ? or dont move at all checked the connection seems good checked the coil seems gfood and connection at the coil is good? please help im not good in the electrical area of cars !

Hmm tom I have the same problem on my 92 not sure yet what the problem is

 

hey man how are ya ! ya know the car runs fine a little rich but cant get that dang tach to work? all the other guages work fine but the tach?

Are either of you running an MSD ignition box? Does the tach work w/o it if you are?

 

nope all stock car tbi 305 , 5 speed tranny , any ideas? please help if ya can remember all stock nothing added

All stock here too (well its a stock '86 tpi in the 92)

 

Currently same problem here with the tach. Will post again on what I had to do when I get it fixed. Hopfully very soon!

 

Well I got my tach working. Here is what I did...
I was lucky enough to have purchased a 92 (v6)parts car recently. I took out the whole dash cluster and plugged it into my car. I worked just fine.

So I then decided to try swapping out my tach with the one on the good cluster and it worked fine also. So I decided to put my speedo and guages in the good cluster and all works fine now.

I also tried the tach from the 92 in my original cluster and it was doing the same thing (buried). I believe the little circuit board on my cluster for the tach is bad. That or was getting some bad connection with my original cluster when plugged into the dash.

Hope this helps you on fixing your tach prob.
