ive got a viper alarm system on my new iroc and i dont know whats wrong with it. it works good exept for the fact that it resets itself a minute or so after i turn the car off. i can be putting in gas or washing it and if i touch it itll go off. is there a code i have 2 do with the remote to get it 2 not reset itself like that? i have a 2 button remote with "I" and "II" on there.

I hate that, too. If I'm working on a friend's car, it really sucks. It's a feature called "passive arming" whereby 30 seconds after the car is turned off the system will re-arm itself automatically. I think it won't happen until all the doors are closed, however. This feature can be disabled.

Check this out and go to page 41. I don't know if your alarm can be reprogrammed in this method, but it's worth a try. The menu you want is number: 1-1

a few ?'s what color is the light on the remote? RED or green?
you can put the alarm in valad mode, this is used for when you are working on the car. what it douse is disarms it untill you reactivate it. THE way you do it is open a door (so the dome light go on) then with the remote press the 2 bot then 1 then 2 agen. The car should beep and the led light should stay lite to put alarm back on repeat process.

if the light is red on the remote then the jumper wire in the alarm (brain) is cut mose viper 300 and 300+ are like this i think. These are the older type alarms.

if the light is green then you can plug in a jumper on the side of the alarm.

 

Viper alarm systems (and all DEI brand systems) come from the factory with the 'Passive Arming' engaged. This is done because one of the 'Selling' features of the alarm is a possible reduction in insurance premiums. In order to receive this discount, most insurance companies require the system to arm passively. That way the owner can't forget to do it. Most people go to their insurance company and demonstrate their system. After they receive their discount, they have the system set back to 'Standard' arming. Although the method varies from system to system, it is always very simple for a professional (the person that installed the alarm) to do. Any reputable moblie electronics shop that originally installed the alarm will do it for free (usually within a 30 day time limit).

 

I do have one question on my new 791 XV if you happen to know:

When armed, the status LED flashes at a consistent rate of about once a second. When disarmed, the LED will flash twice quickly, then pause and flash twice quickly, etc...

It's a bit bright when driving at night. Is there some reason the LED is on at all when disarmed? I assume that either this is some strange "feature" or the result of the alarm being not yet fully installed. I only wired in the H1 harness this weekend, but I don't know how that would cause this LED behavior. Any clue?

 

PhLaXuS ...... This would most likely be due to the fact of it not being fully installed. The double flash after being disarmed is telling the status history of the system while you were away. In this case, Zone 2 has been tripped. If the alarm was fully installed, the system would reset as soon as the ignition was turned to 'RUN'.

It can be used to reprogram any of the configurable features of the alarm. If the alarm shop wents to charge you a BUNCH, you can grab one of these and should be able to reprogram (probably) any DEI alarm you come across.

 

man thanx for all of youre help! i love the alarm now, lol. its a nice feeling knowing ive got one..and that it works good, aparently, lol. but..yeah id still like 2 know more about it and how 2 turn off the alarm from arming itself. im gonna look at what uve given me. my lights are only red and the model is rt4a. i found it on the inside of the transmitter when i got a new battery for it.

btw, i still dont know what the second button is for..

 

It is a GOOD feeling because even though a lot of people ignore alarms today, at least you can hear it.

Oh, and fadetoblack, yep! Once I connected the relay satellite to the ignition harness my alarm now resets with a key-on.

 

read the install instructions. you need to know where your valet switch is to change this feature.

 

My viper alarm has gone nuts and now makes a different noise when it goes off. it has disabled the ignition, even when I ;leave the batt disconnected for a long period of time. I cnat start the car!!

Ill try and get a model number, i really want to figure out how to remove it completely. It all happen when it was running and the negative batt cable was removed. From then on it disabled the starter.

 

Tom, you need to find the starter interup relay. Get the model, i'll get the wire info. Or find the starter wire and you should be able to find the relay.

Well that didn’t help. You need the model number of the alarm. It should be right on the brain.
If it’s a newish one you’ll need to find the relay satellite. It will be a black box smaller then the alarm brain connected to the brain by a small flat cable. Find the Bigger purple and green wires coming out of that. Connect these two wire together and see if it starts.
If it’s an older one you’ll need I THINK the Orange/Black (Orange with a black stripe). Follow that to the relay. Once you got the relay find where it’s ‘cut in to’ the factory starter wire and re-connect the factory starter wire. See if it starts. If you need to start a new thread and find out what the factory starter wire is and track it down that way. There, three options for you...

Ill try your suggestions and let you know what happens. i think i saw a small clear thing for the alarm with wires coming out of it.

 

Clear? Probably one of the sensors, follow that back to the brain.

 

Small clear cube should be the shock sensor. Should have four wires (maybe three if one was cut).

 

Thanks for the help . I tracked down the brain and removed it. It started up, I left the wiring in tact how the viper was in case someone ever wants to put it back in. Funny thing is, one black wire that has its own connector to the brain was cut and just hanging. Dont know what it was for...

 

If it's one black wire in a multi-pin connector, it's probably ground. If it's one small (probably 2 or 3-pin) connector with all black wires, it may be the antenna connection. Could also be how DEI sets the system up for multiple sensors. I thought the black wire in the multi-sensor setup was supposed to be left alone, but I may be wrong.
