powering an inverter
i got a 7" lcd screen to mount on the dash. but i have no dvd player. im going to use one that is designed for home use. and im going to put it in the hatch by my amp. my question is: i would like to add a ciggeret lighted into the back hatch area so i can put the inverter and dvd player back there. anyone know what guage wire goes to the cig lighter, and were i should splice the wires at? thanks for the help im looking to get started on this this weekend so any help is appreciated.

Use 10 gauge wire to power the plug in the rear of the car. I'd fuse it at 20A near where it's connected to the battery. I'm not real familiar with the underhood locations on Camaros, but if they're like most other GM products, there should be a binding post or terminal someplace to hook the wire to. Failing that, get a ring connector the proper size to fit on the + batt post and connect your wire there. Again, don't forget to fuse it near the source.

You could splice the wire from the back of the lighter, where it plugs into the post on the back of the lighter housing. Use a butt connector, do NOT use a scotchlock or other T-type taps, they suck. Cut your supply wire, then put two wires on one side of the butt conn, then put the remaining wire in the other side of the conn. Your lighter should be fused already for 15 or 20 amps, so if you don't mash the lighter in to heat it up the same time you are watching a movie, you should be fine.
