I have the stock dual electric fans in my '91 GTA. Ive been having a problem recently that when the fan kicks on it start screeching like a banshee. What could be causing this?

I only have one fan on my 86 IROC, but when mine started to do this, I was told the bearing in the fan was starting to go. Urs might have the same prob, the bearings in one of ur fans maybe failing.

yes it definitely is the bearings in the motor. it will eventually just quit altogether. i also recommend replacing the motor with a genuine gm part unless you just like changing them.(happened to me)

M fan wroked but just didn't turn fast enough due to the bearing. I replaced it with a used one trying to save some money but had to replace that one with a new one because the used one was slow too. neither actually made a noise but both were just slow. The new one ran fast like it's supposed to.

How much do these fans usually go for?

I think i paid like $25 at autozone for mine. That's just for the motor, you'll reuse the shroud and the blades.

Xandersdad-Where did you get the fan from. I have the same problem that I think my fan should be faster. As it is now when it comes on, I cant even hear it like I can on my friends T/A.

The used one came from a friend but the new one came from I think Advanced Auto Parts. It's been about a year ago still working fine.

Can you actually hear the airflow on it while the engine is running??? Like its putting out alot of air. Mine is just a low noise, pushes some air, but not enough in my opinion.

I can't hear it from inside with the engine running due to the 80 series Flowmaster but I can stick my head out the window and can hear it a little bit. With the engine off and the switch on I can turn the a/c control on and you can hear it a good bit blowing.

Thats it, im going to get a new one soon. I have flowmasters on my car, but I still think I should hear the fan. I cant even hear it with the hood up and me standing in front of the car.

If you can't hear it with the hood up and in front of it you definitely need a new one.
