Car wont start and new battery

Just put in a new motor in my 84 Z28. I have a new battery and the old altenator. The car ran fine before the engine swap but now it wont even turn over. The dome light comes on and also the headlights but when i try and start the car a I hear is clicking. And if I jump the car to get it started the volt gauge only runs at 13volts is that normal?? any help I can really use it.

Starters probly dead, check the connections to it, then double check them, then attempt to start.

The starter is bran new and its not a reman. And if it is the starter why would the car start right up if I jump it but not on the battery alone

Im having similar problems with my starter, I would get the clicking when trying to turn over the engine. What it came down to is the starter kept jamming with my fly wheel. You can unjam it by unscrewing your starter half way off shacking it a bit then you will hear a click from your starter. Tighten it back up to your engine and try again. If it keeps jamming it might need to be shimmed thats what im facing with my engine swap right now. Not 100% sure but i think it might have something to do with the way the new car sits. Because mine worked every time until I swapped my engine into another Camaro.

I don't mean to quote Tom Cruise or nothing, but "Try the Solenoid", It sounds like your solenoid is bad.

still dosent make sense to me because on the battery alone the starter just clicks. If I jump it off of my truck the car starts up right away.

Problem Solved your CCA on the battery in that was in your camaro was too low for the engine in your camaro. BTW what was the CCA of the bat in your truck?

its the same CCA. maybe I wore out the battery when I first broke in my motor because the alternator belt was very loose and probably not charging the battery and now its preety much dead i guess.

The engine was sitting for about 7 months also. Should I buy a new starter? Sorry for stealing your thread.
