Taillights all of a sudden gone

ok so my driver side turn signal went out and so i changed it. i guess the old one was the original or something because it was pretty stuck in there and the glass came off. i had to remove the bottom metla part with a pair of needlenose pliers then all of a sudden the tailights went out!!!. if i step on the brakes they light up but not when i have the headlights turned on like they are supposed to. any ideas???

was it the front turn signal?
do your panel lights work?

if the answers are yes & no in that order, recheck the bulb & socket for any problems & then check the tail light fuse.

yeah it was the front turn signal and yes the instrument panel lights work. i was thinking the fuse as well but if i step on the brakes they light up like they are supposed to. only they do not stay on went the headlights are on. i'll check the fuse though just in case.
