Removing ECM and sensors

I have been searching some past forums and got some answers, but I still have a few more that I couldn't get a specific answer.
Anyway, here's my situation. I have a 86 iroc LG4 (well used to be LG4) that now has a stout 383 running a 750 demon carb, and full MSD ignition, 6AL box, distributer, and coil. Also, it now has a tko trans.
I want to clean up the engine bay some, and free up some room. I would like to remove the computer and corresponding wires and sensors. Most of it seems straight forward, but there are some particular things I have questions about.
First off, ignition, I'm pretty sure the removal of the computer will not effect the MSD system. The 6AL box should take care of it, the wiring document that came with it shows a wire to the ignition key and a wire for the tach. Thats the way I have it wired and it works. Would removing the computer effect that?
From what I've been reading up on the other sensors, they should be able to be removed without messing with other stuff? Right? Apparently there is a barometric pressure sensor and a vacuum sensor, didn't know I had that, but I think those can go. All the stuff off the old carb can go, along with the knock sensor.
I'm assuming the fan switch and coolant sensor would still work?
I think I'm on the right track, just wanting to see if anyone has any insight.
Thanks.

nice setup! ok if you want to see if the computer will mess anything up, then simply unhook the ECM and leave all the sensors hooked up to save time as they are ran by the ECM. if the ECM is out and the car runs like it should then you can pull all the sensors and plugs that you no longer need, then you can weed out the wires in the harness that have no purpose now. as for the fan the sensor might not work, i dont know about that one but you can always do a manual fan switch like it did!

You might check if you have a electrontic speed sensor in the trani you may have a speedometer that will not work.

Yes it is a mechanical driven speedo, so that should be fine. The only other connection to the trans is the reverse lights sensor.

I'll have to check the fan switch. I hope its not connected to the computer.

Is there anything in the dash output that is driven by the computer? The only thing I know of would be the SES light and upshift light.

I appreciate your help. I won't be working on anything today though, its way too cold to be in the garage!

Update:
I removed the computer and the wiring. I did not cut anything, its nice having it intact. However, there are a few other wires and connectors that I'm not sure of. I will post pics here shortly.

This box is located up near the battery next to the radiator. I'm not sure what it is. Anybody know?

The connector in question here is circled in red. It was connected to the computer I disconnected it and left it there. It is located on the drivers side. To the right of the brake booster and under the fan relay. There are two wires, one is pink w/black stripe and a solid black wire. As far as I know that just seems to be power and ground? Maybe that goes to the fuse? I'm not sure. Thanks.

This is the last one for right now. There are two here. One is the big single red wire bolted to the firewall. The other is the one just below it, the 4 wire connectror. These were both not used originally on the car. I'm probably going to remove them, just wondering what they were. Thanks.

Re: Removing ECM and sensors

I wanted to bring this thread back 'cause I was wondering what the first pic is also. I'm cleaning out my engine bay and am taking out the a/c and heater box and want to know what else can be removed.I removed what he has in the third pic 'cause I know it has something to do with the heater\a/c, but I want to know what the first pic is...

Re: Removing ECM and sensors

Its called the Throttle kicker relay. You could probably search around the board to find out what it does, because I have no clue. I removed it and the wires, however, they were some how connected to the fan and power steering?? YEA a big WTF from me, but I have new fans with new wiring, so I'm ok. I have the full wire assembly if you want me to take a picture of it.
