Horn not working!

Hi Guys,

I'm experiencing a minor difficulty with my horn button on my '82 Trans Am. I've tried everything like replacing the fuse and horn relay, and that still didn't help me out. The wires, of course, are all connected and I checked to make sure before posting. I'm not sure if the metal ends from the horn notes need cleaning, or what. Can anyone help me?

i know in my old truck the horn was worked by a push pin that would contact a plate when depressed and after the years of use it wore down enough that it nolonger contacted the plate and i just had to replace that little pin. i dont know how the horn on these cars work but it cant hurt to pop open the steering wheel and find out

On my Firebird, for some weird reason, the horn only works with key on. Not sure if that's normal or not.

I don't know if it does matter if the key is in the on position, or left out completely. I'll give it a try later on and find out.

My bro checked it out. He said it's all rusted. Bye bye old, hello new!

Update for 3-12-07:

Well, my bro went out and bought a new horn button with wiring from AutoZone. The good news is, the horn works. The bad news is, it won't stop the noise. LOL! I'm getting a little aggravated. Anyone know why it does that?

Take a look at my response in this thread

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/elec...bad-relay.html

You will find a wiring diagram and troubleshooting tips, including why the horn is on continualy.

Hey Dave,

Thanks for the link. My bro is going to continue on with the car when he comes home this evening. If you have any more of those guides, do you think you can e-mail them to me?

Hello,

Have you checked the fuses in the fuse panel and make sure they're not blown?
