Camaro wont turn off...

My camaro keeps running! It isnt timing. It stays running and I have to put it in 5th and let the clutch out to kill the motor then everything turns off.I was thinking it may be the ignition but it starts fine everytime i turn the key?Any ideas?

Year? Model? Engine?

Do the dash lights and gauges go dead when you turn the key to OFF? If not, I'd suspect the ignition cylinder or the switch on the steering column.

Does the wiring look hacked up? Was somebody messing with it?

Btw, welcome to the club.

Ok well after searching all day on the computer I finely found out what it was.It was my oil pressure sensor. The sensor above the oil filter.I unplugged it and it turned off. Thanks everyone!

That sounds a bit weird to me.... Is your alternator wired correctly? Sometimes they can "feedback" into the electrical system and keep things energized.

The oil pressure sensor provides backup power to the fuel pump but it shouldn't feed the ignition circuit and coil. If it does, you need to rewire it so that the coil is powered from the ignition cylinder, not that sensor.

Yea, it sounds like your ignition wire is staying hot the whole time, which it should only be hot when the key is in the ON position.

Hmm, only one advice I got at this point:
park the car in front of the house, set a lounge chair in front of it, load the 12gauge. Wait for the gremlins to wake up and then blast the living sh** out of them.

No seriously, you got some gremlins.

If it happens again, grab a test light and start checking wires, which are hot and which are not. If it's your own rewire project, there is nobody else who understands it better than you at this point. So gently put: nobody can help you!

If you want to bring the car to Austin to our June monthly breakfast, we can look at it.

I would start with the pushbutton start wiring. Next I would go to the original ignition wiring.
