Installing alarm question
Installing alarm question
Hey guys,
I'm installing an alarm in my car and I need to run wires to my signal lights so that the lights blink when the system is armed/dissarmed.
I have two wires comming from the Alarm brain to do this.
1 for each side.
Problem is that I'm not sure where the best place is to tap into the signal lights.
Any help would be great.
Thanks.

For a keyless remote sytem, I tapped into the wire coming out of the headlight switch. I used the wire going to the parking lights. That one wire takes care of flashing front & rear parking lights at once - was very simple & works like a champ!

How do I figured out wich wire goes to the parking lights?
I cant seem to get behind the headlight switch to access the wires either.
Any other ideas?

To figure out the correct wire just use a test light as you turn on the parking lights. You want to connect to the wire coming out of the headlight switch that powers up the parking lights. The alarm system wire will provide power to the parking lights to flash them. I don't have a wiring diagram handy to trace where that wire ends up. Perhaps one of the gurus can chime in and give you another location.
As a personal preference, I try to keep all wire splices out of the elements & inside the car whenever possible.

If it dims do not use it as it will cause the dimmer to burn out. Otherwise it is pretty simple to do.
Let me know if you need anymore help. Randy
Re: Installing alarm question
Look under the dash, near the back of the fuse panel or in the kick panel for a brown wire, there are plenty. Use a meter or testlight to verify the wire is not a dimmer wire by turning the headlight **** to see if the test light dims.

What position should the headlight **** be in when I do this?
Should it be pulled all the way out (headlights on) or should it only be pulled out the first bit (just parking lights on)
Thanks. I will check for that brown wire when I hear back from you.

I will pick up a test light and do just that.
Thanks again.

Re: Installing alarm question
Once again, Thanks a Ton Randy and Corky.
I tested out every single brown wire I could around my fuse box and behind the drivers kick pannel and not one of them was the right one.
Soooooo.
I took the top of the dash off.......again. and I was able to see the wires going to the back of the light switch/****.
I used the test light on one of the brown wires there and sure enough it worked for the parking lights. I also adjusted the dimmer to make sure it didn't dim my test light and it did not.
I then ran a cable up through the dash to that point and tapped into that brown wire there.
All is done and working now.
Getting the lights hooked up turned out to me one of the toughest things, That and finding a hole in the firewall to run the siren and tapping into the power door locks were all quite tricky. The rest was easy.
Thanks guys.

Re: Installing alarm question
I tapped mine to the headlights, too. My friend had his alarm wires tapped to the signal lights. He has no any problem so far.
