Fog light wiring

I have a 91 Camaro RS, TBI 305, T5 trans with power windows/locks/hatch. No factory option fog lights. I installed aftermarket fog lights, and now that its time to wire them in I had and idea. So I popped off the little blank switch pannel under the light switch/dimmer and noticed a plug in there. Is this the plug/pigtail to the factory fog lights? And if it is, are the rest of the wires that run to the front in the car somewhere? Also, could I adapt the wires to a new switch, then just put a fuse in the factory location in the fuse block and utilize the forward ends of the wires to hook directly into my new fog lights? Alot of questions I know, but this could save a great deal of time, as well as eliminate the need for extra wiring in the car.

Thanks alot,
Max

No ideas anyone? Let me know if there was something you didn't understand, or if you need more information.

Would greatly appreciate any help,

Re: Fog light wiring

When I installed a 91 Dash housing into my 87 I found that the fog light wiring was already installed in that dash system. It was not a completely seperate harness as in previous years. I think the fog light harness was included inside the dash wiring harness from 88 and up.

IIRC the fog light wires are purple and I THINK the plug is a 3 wire connector. I'm about 90% positive that the factory Fog light wiring is run thru the C100 firewall connector to the cars engine bay. From there I do not know how they are run to the lights. There's a chance that the engine bay fog light wires are included inside the engine wiring harness - but I'm guessing about that !

Re: Fog light wiring

I'm assuming the C100 firewall connector is the plug that runs through on the driver side under the Master Cylinder. You think the wires MIGHT be run through and dead ended on the engine bay side somewhere? I would like to go out and investigate but unfortunately it has been raining here for two days now. I have the wiring diagram in my Haynes Manual to go by, so this may be enough to see me through. Although, I am open to any other information or suggestions.

Thanks,
Max

Re: Fog light wiring

Max,

Yes the C100 connector is the one near the Master Cyliner. Me thoughts are that the wire run into this connector on the INSIDE of the firewall and stop there. I'M GUESSING that the Engine harness that plugs into the C100 connector on the engine side will only have the fog lights if the car got them from the factory.

I can recall finding the interior dash harness when I swapped the 91 set-up into my 87 - but never found any fog light wiring on the engine harness when the original 3.1 engine harness was installed.

Click this link to see the C100 connector from the 91 Camaro........ It might help locate the wires on your dash harness at the C100 connector.

Re: Fog light wiring

OK, you were correct about the color of the wires running from the switch. But as suspected, they dont go all the way through to the engine bay. There is a purple wire on the engine bay side of the C100, but it follows the harness and goes back into the cab on the passenger side. No dark blue/white wire as is shown in the wiring diagram. Struck out on this one. Thanks anyway for all the help.

Thanks again,
Max

Re: Fog light wiring

I found the same thing - wires to the firewall, none beyond.

I utilized the wires in the dash, and connector, so I could use a factory foglight switch - but from there I wired the rest myself.

I went carb, so no ECM. I used power from the fuse box to power the switch, so the switch lights as it should. Power runs from the switch through wiring under the dash to the pass side, where I spliced into the old ECM wiring to get into the engine bay - from there I wired up to a relay.

The switch gets power from the fuse box, which lights the switch, and sends power through the firewall to the relay, switching the relay on to run power from the battery (fusible link area) directly to the foglights.

One note - this also controls the foglights to OFF when the highbeams are switched on, since the OEM foglight switch connector is also wired into the low beam/high beam circuit.

Re: Fog light wiring

I just got a 91 RS vert and I am looking to add fog lights as well. Could post a couple of photos of the lights. Where you mounted and how. I still want a factory look and I am hoping to find a switch under the blank panel as well.

Thanks...

Re: Fog light wiring

With most store bought Foglight kits it comes with a switch, and enough wire. But in my case, I just cut the factory clip, and spliced on the after market wiring. Kinda hackman, I know, but it looks pretty damn good. I went with yellow glass.

Re: Fog light wiring

Did you mount them in the grill around the front plate or did you switch the grill out with a Z28 grill. And do you have any pics?
