starter will not crank

My starter in my 1985 camaro will not crank when turning the key.I applied 12volts to the starter switch lug on the starter and it cranks. It appears to be the neutral safety switch or the ignition switch or the wiring.Does anyone have any other suggestions as what it is or what I should do next to narrow it down......thanks for any suggestions in advance,

Re: starter will not crank

It could be either the neutral safety switch or ignition switch. Just have to use a volt meter to check for voltages while in the crank position. You can try to jump out the neutral safety switch to see if its bad.
