sounds like your brake light switch on the upper part of the brake pedal . usually about 10 dollars and 15 minutes to fix .Originally Posted by a1990camaro

I too have replaced the brake light switch but still can't get the brake lights to work. Hazards do not work eigther. Also the park brake when engaged doesnt make the lights come on dash or tail lights. (in fact it doesnt seem the park brake works mechaincally) YES we checked the fuse and have power at the fuse block. We are new 87 Firebird owners and really anxious to get our project tagged and rolling.
What should we try next? Is the park brake switch in the loop with the brake lights??

okay you have several things here and I will try to help. first your hazards. when you pull the button out do the lights come on or not outside the car ? If they do come on just dont blink , its your emergency flasher .If they do not come on it it probaly the turn signal assembly in the column. Both are not hard fixes with a haynes or chiltons manuel. Your brake lights it says you have replaced the stop light switch , however did you check for consistant power at the switch before you replaced it ? have you checked for power on the circuit on the pigtails in the rear when the brake is pressed ?If you have power on the switch wire its between the switch and the tail lights , if not the problem is the power to the switch . now your emergency brake (which sounds like your rear shoes need replaced and adjusted) has nothing to do with the rear tail lights they do not come on when the e-brake is pulled only the light on the dash does (which probably is burnt out or the switch on the e-brake needs adjusting or replacement)Originally Posted by sharonq

It is the fuse block; fuse is good, but no power at the block. That explains why the hazards dont work either. Thanks for the help!

I have found that if fuse taps are used they can spread out the contacts in the fuse panel causing things to not work. Just another thought.

what the hell man this is my post for a 1990 CAMARO NOT FIREBIRD POST YOUR OWN ****. can someone please help me and not ask questions for them selfs for a car that isnt a camaro.
my brake lights work sometimes. can someone tell me what fuses are responsible for the brake lights to work, and what other causes there might be
