Wiring for fog lights through Firewall

I am insalling foglights on my 89 RS camaro and need to get wires to the key in dash. My question : do I need to make new wholes or is there a better way of doing this?

Thanks

Re: Wiring for fog lights through Firewall

If you've got all the time and patience in the world, you could get ahold of a Helms manual for a 1989 Camaro and determine where the factory ran the wiring. Chances are, they ran it through the bulkhead connector behind the fuse block under the dash.

However, if you're more concerned with getting the job done then making it exactly authentic, it'd be faster to either pop a new hole in the firewall, or run the wire through an existing hole.

Look in the electrical section. Start at the index and look for "harness connector faces". You're looking for C100. It's page 8A-202-0 in both the books I have here. The connector itself is split into two halves that snap together. One half is the engine harness, the other half is the light harness.

My 1991 manual shows cavity C3 on the lights harness as a purple wire for the fog lights. My 87 electrical manual doesn't mention fog lights at all, but it does show all the empty cavities.

It does vanish. Non-Fog Light cars usually have the wires in the dash, but they disappear into oblivion somewhere in the firewall. For my install, I just ran a positive from the switch through the firewall to underhood, where I connected it to turn on a relay, then I drew the large juice for the lights from the fusible links connector tothe relay to the foglights - that way I didn't have a large drain wire running through the firewall.

Re: Wiring for fog lights through Firewall

in 89, this is what the book says...
It lists three wires in the c100 socket being for fog lights..

Socket half -----------Pin half
Red ------------------Red
Brown---------------- Brown
Dk blue/white----------Purple

hope that helps

Re: Wiring for fog lights through Firewall

Thanks guys,

I did look for the wires under the dash and under the hood but no luck.

I have got a complete kit from KC with instructions, relay, fuse and all. I just installed the fogs today and only need to get a couple of wires through the firewall. Can anyone tell me how many holes are already there and if it's possible to add couple of more wires? I am reluctant to make new holes.

There should be plenty of empty slots. The trick is getting the terminals from a dealership, or salvaging from a junkyard car, and then installing the new terminals into the existing C100 connector.

One more question,

I need to get power to back of the switch, would you get it from the fuse box? and how? I mean which wire specifically?

Where exactly is this C100 connector located?

Re: Wiring for fog lights through Firewall

Here's the C100 firewall diagram for your 89.

The fog Lights were wired in an independant harness from 85-87. After that the wiring was integrated into the main dash harness. I'm pretty sure your 89 dash harness/C100 connector will have the connections/wires for factory fog lights. If the car didn't have factory fog lights than no button was installed & the engine harness will be lacking the rest of the system.

C100 is located on the firewall on the drivers side of the engine bay.

Along with the fuses, your fuse block will have several hook ups for aftermarket accessories. The ones labeled BAT are 12V+ constant, the ACC are 12V+ switched. They make special plugs that clip into the block, but a standard male spade terminal will work just fine.

Re: Wiring for fog lights through Firewall

sounds like he (and I) would be better off just running a whole new set of wires instead of trying to fit them into the c100

not to highjack the thread, but what's the best way to wire them so they come on when the car is on, able to be shut off with a switch, but not have them on at all when the car is not running?
