car dies when the brake is released??
recently swaped trannys and now the car dies when in gear after the brake has been released. idles fine in park , nutral but will die in the other gears unless the brake is being pressed. my first thought was the tourque converter was locked up but i have the car on jacks stands without the parking brake, the tires should spin anyway if it is indeed the TC correct?. ive sence changed TCs just to be sure that is not the issue and the same problem still occurs(also tried unpluging the lockup connector). so i am now leaning twards it being an electrical issue. maybe i messed something up when pulling out the old tranny. i just dont know. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like something with the neutral safety switch or the brake switch.

well sence my last post it stoped doing that. now it dies when i give it gas with out the brake when rolling. if i power brake it it seems to do fine. checked the throtle possitioning censer and it seems to be fine. is there anything that can kill the fuel pump or injectors when i give it throtle without braking?

Sounds like the TC is/was stuck on. With the car in the air, the TC can still stall it, there is A LOT of drag when it is engaged. After you replaced the TC, the solenoid was/is stuck sending fluid to the TC keeping it engaged. After unplugging the connector the solenoid, being stuck open, is still sending fluid to the TC causing it too stall. If possible unbolt the TC from the flex plate and push the TC back into the transmission, should move a few mm, to keep it from rubbing. Then see if the car still stalls. Probably going to be a bad solenoid or valve body.

that was my thought at first as well but now i can put it in drive and roll at idle. as soon as i give it gas it dies and some times its lurches hard before it dies.

Still sounds like the TC. As you accelerate the transmission fluid pressure builds and leaks past a partially open valve and applies the TC stalling it out. Did it have this issue before you swapped transmissions? I doubt you would have pinched or pulled the harness, though that could also be a possibility. I'd check that as well. Though I still think it is in the new transmission...

no it didnt. after i put the new one in i thought it was the TC so i pulled it out and put the old one back in knowing that it functions( i had lost 3rd and 4th in the old tranny). is there anything i can do without draining the system again? auuggg

Did you flush out the old TC before you put it back in? Not that this would solve your problem, but hopefully there were no metal shavings in the TC from your trans going bad. When your engine stalls. Is it acting like how a stick shift would taking off in a high gear like say 5th? I had a lock up solenoid go bad once and thats how it acted. The TC was locked all the time.
