VATS starter relay location - 88 GTA
It's been asked a hundred times, and the answer is always "driver sude kick panel". Well, mine's not there. The only relay I can find there is the door lock relay. I can't see anything behind that relay, and I can't find anything up under the dash, although so far I only took a quick look. Where can that starter relay be? Every once in a while my car won't crank, so I need to ground the relay, but I can't find it!

You dont really have to bring the fuse box down but it makes it easier. it is that area tho

Re: VATS starter relay location - 88 GTA
I have an 88' GTA and it was not located behind the rubber/tar paper but higher up and the relay was actually mounted to the body or something else, just remove the driver side hush panel and look for the thick green, thick yellow, small yellow and black wire IIRC and follow it to the relay. There is a picture of those wires further up in the thread. It is tight in there but I disconnected the plug from the relay(I left the relay there), made a jumper with some thick gauge wire with a spade on each end and placed the ends where the large green and yellow wires go into the plug then used a little electrical tape to make sure it wont move.

VATS was on your 88? I was thinking the VATS wasn't on these cars until 89?
Looking on Austinthirdgen.org in their wiring diagrams, the starter enable relay isn't shown on the 88 drawing but does show up on the 89 drawing. I'm wondering if this was a mid model year addiction
