Battery cable trouble

The ends on my battery cables are pretty gnarly so I wanted to cut them back and splice them, but can I safely (and legally) do that? Or is there a way to just replace the whole battery cable without a harness swap?

So do a search for the same in top post config.

Could prob walk into your local parts shop and get generic cables straight off the shelf
Only have to be long enough Batt - starter/ block ,nothing special about them

Re: Battery cable trouble

The negative cable is easier to do; it's right on top. The positive is a bit trickier only because of tight quarters (I have an 8 cyl. TPI) but if you have a jack & stands, it will be easier. Figure about a half hour for removal and re-install of both. I bought Duralast Gold 2 gauge at Autozone for about 13 bucks each. If that's too much, they have less expensive options.
