Cruise Control Wiring Questions
Cruise Control Wiring Questions
I got a cruise control set up for my 350 TPI. This is going in my 76 Chevy pickup and I have the 700r4. Its a 1992 set up with the 7730 ECM.
I have a 2 pin harness that has a GRY/WHT and a BRN wire that comes from the brake switch from the N/C position. I'm wondering if that's supposed to go to a Pk/Ntrl switch or where?
Also, if the N/C postion is used up for the cruise control, how is the torque convertor lockup controlled when applying the brakes? Both wiring diagrams I have show these two things going thru the brake switch.
The other harness has a PNK/BLK and a BRN wire which I believe are 12 volts+ and the brown I believe is for the 2000PPM signal but not sure.
Thanks,
Pugsy

Re: Cruise Control Wiring Questions
Yea there are two switches that go on the brake pedal one is the actual brake light switch an the other is the cruise cut off switch
Re: Cruise Control Wiring Questions
Thanks soarestransam.
There are indeed two brake switches.
One is a combo for the brake lights and electric cut off of the cruise control servo.
The other is a switch for torque convertor lockup and it also has a vacuum release for the cruise control built in to it. Must be a fail safe.
I need to modify my brake switch bracket to install the second switch and I'll be good to go.
I got a nut to fit the second switch I found in my box of wiring junk. I had to slit a castle nut and pry it open a tinch but she threads in nice. I'll tack this on to the plate extension.

Re: Cruise Control Wiring Questions
I found this drwg somewhere on this site and saved it.
You can do a continuity test using this and either confirm its the swich or something else.
I'd say its a good place to start.

im new to this computer stuff so maybe im doing this wrong. I have a 1991 rs camaro with the 305tbi. she has 248211 miles on it and its all original, and they said the car was junkha. Any way i have an intermitent start and i cant figure it out. I have replaced the steering column, I have checked the vats system its not that ,the starter has been checked and is good, the starter relay hits, and all the power in the car comes on but the starter doesnt hit. Wait 20 min. and it starts right up,it could go 3 wks without a problem then it will act up solid for a week or so, and it has a brand new battery. Any ideas would be great.

Loose wire maybe?

Re: Cruise Control Wiring Questions
Can anyone tell me if its the large or small port on the servo that gets vacuum applied to it?
I had it hooked to the large port and man did my engine rev up nicely. I thought it was a Toyota for a second there until I got it shut down. Of coarse this was in Drive with the wheels off the ground. Scared the %$% out of me.

Re: Cruise Control Wiring Questions
Small port gets vacuum and large hose is the vent that goes directly to the brake pedal.
So I got the hoses staightened out and she works fine.
I found the brake pedal slightly sagging and that was cutting off the electrical connection.
soarestransam, you may want to check that out. Lift up on the brake pedal and see if it works.
