New Switch For Brights
Hey guys.
So I have a 91 camaro rs with a high beam problem. The problem is that the wire that connects the turn signal stick to the white switch for the high beams has sliped out of its spot up in the steering column near the turn signal switch. First does anyone know how to get this back in its place? Second would it be possible to wire a toggle switch that i could mount to the dash to toggle my high beams? Their looks to be more than a couple of wires comming into the white switch.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks guys.

Re: New Switch For Brights
The wire is intact. I tried pushing it back in and I could not locate the wires spot. I think there might be something broken in the turn signal lever mechanism.
Does anyone know what wires I could hack into on the white switch to mount a toggle switch?

Well, if you want to do it the hack way, you run the wires to a SPDT switch, yellow common and tan and green on the outsides.
Or you could get yourself some tools and figure out what's going on in the steering column that the actuator rod won't go into the switch in the first place. Just remember to disconnect the air bag connector first after disconnecting the battery.

Everything between the cover and the air bag has to come out of the way before you can realign the lever. There is a little black lever, that goes into a slot in the lock housing that aligns with a tab in the cover under the tilt lever, which sits between the dimmer rod and the tab on the wiper switch to activate the dimmer rod to activate the switch.

OK I will start after the steering wheel has been removed, and airbag activator removed, maybe. I removed my airbag parts about 2 years ago. but all airbag parts, & wiring are yellow or raped in yellow tape.
With steering wheel removed, you will need a tool similar to this to compress, the spring and be able to remove this locking spring clip. you can see the grove that it goes in, and yes it can be a pain.

remove the flasher ****.

remove the wheel looking ring, there will also be a white plastic ring with a copper ring.

one screw holds this in, it connects the signal arm to the signal switch / auto canceling mechanism.

and three screws that hold the signal mechanism in place

you will need to remove this doodad? or what ever the technical name is. it will just pull out.

with that out of they way you will see a black torx #15

with that removed.
you then can remove the tumbler.

then remove the three silver torx #30's

this is the top of part that may be the problem, or its the small tab that extends over it.

now you will be able to slide the upper sleeve up.
which allows the lower turn signal cover to be removed.

this is the plastic intermediate part that may be your problem, but I have never seen one break, but have seen the lower signal cover damaged allowing it to come out of position.

this is how it is positioned on the lower signal cover.

this is how it sets against the rod.

here is it in place with the lower signal cover off, and the upper sleeve in place.

now just reverse to put it back together.[IMG]http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc424/FlyDoc

FlyDoc, those are some great pictures.
Thanks for helping out here, it is really appreciated.
Btw, I got a buddy in Honolulu. He had to leave his sweet LT1 Z28 on the mainland and doesn't know any HI gear-heads so you guys might want to hook up.
