Reasons to Disconnect IAT?!

Finally getting into the 87GTA this weekend that i recently got and found the IAT to be disconnected.

L98 w/T56 swap
Of course I am getting a code for it (23) but am kinda confused why it would be disconnected?

So before i pluged it in or did a relocation mod (most likely bad) i figure i ask.

Any thoughts

thanks in advance

It should be plugged in. It tells the computer the air temp reading so it can make fuel adjustments depending on the temperature.

Re: Reasons to Disconnect IAT?!

The relocation mod would cause it to eat more gas?
relocation to intake (piping vers manifold)?

And yeah I agree it should be plugged in, just so odd to be unplugged Iwould think it was intentional, so Im trying to figure out, why? LOL

Either way, i am def running rich so I will plug it in tomorrow and see how it effects things.
Iam going to expect its bad though, meaning sensor.

yes, it will tell the ecm that the air temp is colder than it actually is in the plenum. It is not easy to plug back in. You will have to use two hands. One hand from behind the plenum to grab the harness plug with and line it up under the IAT sensor, and the left hand you will need to use a flat head screwdriver between the runners ,then place the screwdriver on the bottom of the harness plug and push up. Unless you want to remove the runners. That is just a PIA.

Re: Reasons to Disconnect IAT?!

when I installed my aftermarket air cleaner I installed mine in the bottom of it toward the rear. all I did was measure the factory hole and drilled the same size in the aftermarket one and installed the sensor and the clip in it. works fine.

Re: Reasons to Disconnect IAT?!

Yeah I am going to do the same. I just think its so odd that either someone forgot to put it in (connect it) or they disconnected it for some odd reason...
Cause even if it was bad...disconnected would casue same error...why go threw trouble to disconnect...
