diagram for 88 gta dash and alternator??

So im having some electrical issues with my dash and my guess is its a ground or something. Car started acting funny the other day after my bolts that hold the bracket for my power steering and the alternator backed out and my belt flew off and then the alternator was touching the valve cover and sparking. Put the bolts back and started the, all seemed fine. From there the dash lights would flicker with the turn signal lights, thought that was a little weird but just thought it was higher than normal resistance in the circuit. But today is where it got a little weird this morning the dash light were flickering and I looked at the voltage gauge and noticed the it was higher than it normally is but jumping from 13 up but not to the red idk if that was just a wire problem or if the volts were fluctuating that much? Then I turned on my headlights and the engine just died as soon as they came on. Started it back up and it was fine no problems drove here to work just fine.

Also would the alternator touching the valve cover and sparking affect driveability in any way? My car seems stronger and smoother after that? Lol but likes to act like its gonna die when I come up on a stop light or stop sign. RPMs dip under 500 to maybe high 300s, then I feel a slight kick and they jump back up to normal and runs fine.

Its the gta with digital dash and alternator is on the driver side. Just trying to see what wires in common they have to see if its a short, loose connection or what else it could be.

Re: diagram for 88 gta dash and alternator??

Alright so I went through those diagrams and even tried searching on google and haven't found nothing that connects the 2 circuits. Anybody else think what could be contributing to the problems? This thing is getting me stumped the only thing I can come up with is since the tach and volt gauges are fluctuating with each other a ground G200 (ground behind I/P and next to the steering column). Other than that I cant find a common power that would affect it in this way? I dont see what would cause the engine to just quit after the switch is turned on.

I had a 1970 Dodge Coronet that happened in. turned out, that the wire that went from the alternator all the way to the gauge was fried. Replaced it, worked fine. Just a thought. But i would pull the dash and check the printed circuit board and your wiring.

How does the volt meter in the digital dash work? Is it just a power from the fuse block for the whole dash then from there it gets its ground from that G200 and the meter just measures voltage like that?

Re: diagram for 88 gta dash and alternator??

Alright guys so I finally was able to get out and check my voltage while the gauges were acting wack. Turns out I only have 12.3v to the battery when car is on and the gauges jumping around. So im guessing. The alternator is shorted out when the alternator touched the valve covers and from there it either messed with the voltage regulator or something internal. Also could be a fusable link to the alternator. Is it just the one going from the batter to the alternator thats the fusable link?
