Re: starter help?
if it has a vats, i think there is a relay in the drivers side kick panel ... you did not say if it was a stick or auto though, or what year it was, or if it has a vats or not ... more info could be helpful ... also if you would say what the car is doing or not doing may help as well

Re: starter help?
did you check it for power with the key in the start position? (sorry to ask such a simple question, but sometimes people overlook the simple stuff)
and no, it gets it ground from being bolted to the block, so make sure your ground wire to the block is in a good clean place
also, if you have to have the car right now, you can always mount a starter switch under the dash and take power straight from the B+ to the switch, then out to the starter where the purple wire goes

Re: starter help?
did you check all your grounds ... do all the lights work right? ... do you maybe have both turn signal lights in the dash come on when you turn on your headlights?

Re: starter help?
also, there is a "relay" in the drivers side kick panel (just to the left of the pedals under that panel) if you had a vats system, you will have to bypass that to get power to the purple wire ... it works a lot like the safety switch on a clutch

Re: starter help?
do they come on when the turn signals are off, but the lights are on? ... and do you have a vats in your car?
does your key look like this one? http://www.michaelhyde.com/assets/im.../S595519-2.jpg

Re: starter help?
ok, vats is the Vehicle Anti Theft System ... and it will not let the starter engage without the proper signal ... easy way to test that is ... Remove Driver side kick pane and its recessed into the body there. Lil green wire, ground that, no vats ignition passkey required ... and if your turn signal lights light up with the headlights on, but the signals turned off, it should have a bad ground still ... make sure the ground strap from the back of the motor is bolted to the body, and make sure that the ground cable from the B-is tight to the motor, and in a place that is not shielded with rubber (like dont have it hooked to a motor mount)
