Think I Found A Way To Disable VATS
After being stuck in a parking lot for 5 minutes, I finally got tired of the VATS system, so I'm trying to find a good way to disable it.
I still want it to shut down the car, so I don't want to totally take it out.
My plan is to disconnect it where it joins together under the dash, and put a resistor there. (1470 ohms for me) I want to find a connector of the same type(male) from a junkyard and wire in a resistor to it, to form a loop.
Then, if I don't want the car to be started, I can just pull the VATS fuse from the fuse block.
Any suggestions?

it should work. if you do this, you can even change the lock cylinder to use just regular keys. but if you forget to take out the resistor, the car is gone in 60's like any other.

I have found that if you take the black wire with the yellow stripe on it going to the vats module, and give it a ground. This will bypass it. if you still want the protection just wire up a switch to it. Thus providing a switched gound to the vats.

Now I can't decide if I want to make a resistor plug or a ground switch.
The resistor plug is a simple strait forward device and the ground switch would take more effort but I would have it just right there.
I think I'll go with the resistor plug because I won't really use the VATS all that much anyway. And I can go back to stock without any splices.

I need to disable the VATS on my 89 Camaro RS. This is the wiring scheme. I know the colors are right, and I think I have the functions of the wires right, but I'm not sure. I am wondering which wire that I should ground (as you can see I don't have a black and yellow wire). Also, am I supposed to ground the wire going to the VATS box or should I ground the end coming from it or both?
Thank you very much,
Will
