Clutch/NSS Wiring Gauge?

Hey guys, I know they say there is no such thing as a stupid question, but this is a stupid question. However, I'm not about to burn my car to the ground when I try to start it if I use the wrong wire gauge.

I gotta splice in my clutch safety, have the wiring (long story short it wound up in another car, putting it back in where it originally came from), but I need more wire to make the splice. Is the NSS/Clutch safety a 10 or 8 gauge wire? seems too big to fit in the 10, but I can strip it using the 10.

All searching leads to questions regarding heavier wire or colors. I know how it runs, I just need to have the right gauge.

Thanks
Chris

Re: Clutch/NSS Wiring Gauge?

What pedals are you using- I seem to recall the 4th gen ones use a smaller switch that may not be up to par.

I used 10 gauge.

Third gen, it is an original manual trans car, I just took the pedals and wiring out for an auto to manual swap, but the trans broke, so taking the opportunity to finish the one car. Will fix the trans swap car at some point but.... an LS swapped car is more fun.

But it is a 10 gauge wire for third gen pedals?

Been a few months, but from what I recall for my T5 swap, yes. I did modify my factory auto harness however.

The wiring should be the same then, but if your car didn't burn to the ground with ten gauge wire, I should be ok as well. Seems to be too big for 10 gauge if using the strippers, I guess the gauge is the actual copper wire not the insulation.

Will leave this open in case any others reply further, but I'll look into getting some ten gauge to splice in. Problem was I cut it too close to the common. So I had to cut out the common and redo the whole damn thing in the process, and apparently I accidentally cut a smaller wire when pulling it out before. Gotta fix that too, but once done I can put all the wiring back, put my dash back properly, and move on to other parts of the build.

Thanks

Re: Clutch/NSS Wiring Gauge?

Right: gauge refers to the wire, not the insulation.

Original size in the car was about 12 ga. 10 would be fine as long as it's not too bulky and stiff.

So 12 would be good as well? I'll see what it comes out to. If the original NSS/Clutch safety is a 12 ga, 10 would work but doesn't make sense to get 10 if 12 works and is better suited fit wise.

Re: Clutch/NSS Wiring Gauge?

Original size is actually 3mm, the closest AWG size to which is 12. So, yeah...

Ok cool, Thanks, I know some wire is bulky, would rather use something closer to the original to avoid the bulky awkwardness of the heavier wire. Guess it is off to the parts house for wire for me.
