Hello everyone, I have 1992 v6 manual camaro. I have a problem I have been trying to figure out for a cupple months. A cupple months ago I pulled my car up on my drive way to wash it. Started up with the key fine. When I went to back it off if wouldnt start. I would turn the key to the run position all my gauges/ dash lights will move and turn on but no crank at all. I had to have tried to turn it on about 50- 60 times that night before I arced the starter solenoid to get it off the drive way. I had bought a new battery a month ago so I tested it. 12.77 volts. I had put a new alt on it at the same time. The starter was only a year old so I didnt suspect it much. I looked on the forums real quick and found people were having the same symptoms with the ignition switch. Went and picked one up and put it in didnt work.
Frustrated I left it alone that day.
The next day i looked on the forums more and learned about VATS, once again people were having the same problems so I replaced my key and my tumblr. I check the resistance of the key with a good multimeter and it was key #7. I ordered the key and when it got here I checked the resistance and it matched. When I put it in and hooked it up the same thing, power but no crank. Even more fusterated I left it alone for a cupple of weeks.
A friend told me it was a faulty starter, i didnt think it was but I warentied it out anyway, still no change. Finally went under and checked for power at the starter. Yes 12.43 to both wires going in, checked after the fuseable links aswell still 12.43. Went under the dash and checked both RED wires going into the ignition switch both have 12.30. I checked for power at the large YELLOW wire comming from the ignition switch to the starter/VATS relay with the key in all the positions. 00.64 volts with the relay plugged in. 0 volts with the relay unplugged. I thought that was odd so I went to orileys to warenty the ignition switch put it in and still did not give power to the YELLOW wire. I then jumped the RED wire with the YELLOW wire and checked for power at the GREEN wire of the clutch saftey switch 12.30 volts. Plugged the switch in, turned the key to the on position pressed the clutch switch the car starts up and runs perfect.
When I bypass the ignition switch and give power directly to the YELLOW wire of the starter/VATS relay and have the key in the on position the car will run and drive fine. If I ultimately have to I will make this work and make a more permanent solution with a switch insted of alligator clips. I would rather know what the problem is.
I am so confused, if any info or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am going to have 2 wiring diagrams attached that makes the last bit more understandable. Thank you for you're time.

If I understand your pictures correctly , and you say you replaced the ignition switch , I'd say your new ignition switch isn't adjusted properly . You do know there is about 1/4" of adjustment built into the switch where it mounts to the steering column , yes ?

Yeah, I tried to adjust it a cupple times. Nothing I tried pulling the rod with pliers even further when turning the key and it's still the same. I will try again to adjust it again just to make sure I am not missing a brain cell. When I get home I am going to check the resistance of the keys for the 8th time.
