Re: Best headlights
My setup is as follows for low beams(haven't done highs yet since I hardly drive my car anymore)
I'm pretty happy with the light it throws out. Not as bright as it used to be now that the bulbs are like 8 years old, but still a big improvement over those factory style bulbs.
Good quality(forget the brand I bought) metal and glass housings from ebay that allow H4 style bulbs to be used
Headlight harness to draw power directly from the battery.
5000K HID kit(don't skimp on quality with HID or LED bulbs unless you like changing them out often)
Properly aimed the headlights
When I made the harness, I re-pinned the headlight connectors on the car for H4 bulb so that if I had any issue I could just put a regular H4 bulb in the housing. IIRC you swap the ground and the high beam pins, but don't take my word for fact on that part as its been quite a few years since I've done it lol.

Re: Best headlights
Cibie conversions with Phillips X-Treme Vision bulbs (H4 - low/high; H1 - high) is what I run. The Cibie conversions were discontinued a long time ago; I found some NOS on ebay and at an online seller some years ago. Instead of re-pinning the connector for H4's, I bought a Hella adapter harness from Susquehanna MotorSports (https://www.rallylights.com/hella-ad...ion-lamps.html).
I'm using LED conversion bulbs (9004, 9005/9006) on a couple of my other cars. These are an improvement over tungsten filaments. I'd avoid the bulbs that have four LED "panels" (for lack of a better term) that are 90-degrees to each other. They throw light everywhere it's not needed. Stick with the ones that have two panels that are 180-degrees to one another. Like 855 commented, avoid cheap (ebay) bulbs unless you like replacing them every 24 months or so. I've had some that were bad out of the box. A potential fit problem with these bulbs is they need additional clearance behind them for the box fan. I don't know...the jury is still out.
A good alternative might be those direct fit LED headlights you see on tractor/trailer rigs.

Re: Best headlights

These are with the daytime running light portion on.
My choice for best headlights.
These lights are lightyears ahead of the old 80's style sealed beam and on par with the offerings on new cars. I no longer feel like I'm driving with a flashlight at night with every road sign glaring at me.
These are LED sealed beam units that you can find with a little searching on Amazon or eBay.
Price has come waaaaayyyy down on the LED stuff, so much so that the BMW headlight swap has become a bad option.

Re: Best headlights
You would think that by 2019 someone would have started making lights specifically for our cars by now

These cars have been shunned since the fourthgens debuted, especially once the fourth generation ls1 debuted.
