Ok I have a 1988 Camaro iroc-z this is my second time rebuilding my hatch motor first time the cheap china hatch motor housing broke in a year I bought 2 motors 2nd one as a spare also China unit.
So this is the issues first when I hook everything up it doesn't move but the motor is getting hot and when I push the engagement switch on top I hear it try to do something but it won't move funny thing is when I tested out of the car I poked the motor with 12 volts and a ground and it worked moved up words ok to go to the top , but won't go in reverse or pull hatch down in the car. I checked the lid fuse was ok and the acc 20 amp fuse looked ok.
Last question is there is a little white wire that I see nothing it plugs into in picture not sure what it is for?
Good point , I'll flip the switch see what that does and or try a different reverse switch I have. Do you know off hand what position the switch is spose to go if your looking down on the hatch motor in the car?
I'd have to look at one again. I do remember putting one together wrong, though. It seems like it's actually HARD to assemble it in the right spot. My spare ones are at my brother's farm an hour away, so I'm not going to have a fast answer for ya.
Update figured out what was wrong . The switch that plugs into motor when you connect or push it into the motor you must make sure the switch is in the middle of the two cogs that way when motor lowers it pushes switch down and when rasies it pushes switch up . When I assembled it I failed to see that.
The reinforced housing that I bought from top down solutions is awesome I highly recommend them!
My 88 firebird uses the white wire off the relay to turn on the light in the hatch panel when the lift motor has the hatch in the lifted position.. The light also has a slide switch to turn on the same light manually.
