Positive battery cable assembly

I love the Hawks setup but oof to $220. I don't see anyone else that makes a kit like this. After some research and reading the sheathing on the orange wire, it's a fusible link going to the electric fan relay harness. My sheathing is damaged but I think the link is still good so I taped it up after wrapping in silicone hose (red with black tape in the pic) but I'm not sure about it. Is there anyone that makes these battery cable assemblies?

Oh and what exactly is that red arrowed piece called?

That's a ferrite choke it looks like. You could always make your own cables, that way you get exactly what you want and you can do the right thing like convert to top post.

Oh man, I don't really have the equipment to make those style terminals/plugs and not sure I'd be skilled enough to do that haha.

Re: Positive battery cable assembly

Ugh! Maybe I will just do my own cables or order the cables so I can switch to top post. Does anyone know what those 2 terminals are called? Weatherpack but what style etc

Re: Positive battery cable assembly

You can reuse the plastic weatherpack stuff and put new wires and terminals in them if they're in good shape. It is a bit of an investment to get the specialty tools, probably to the point where you'll spend $220 making your own. But the next time you need to make something, it's just the cost of materials. Not a lot of skill involved in wires; cut stuff where you want it, prep the wire with a tool, crush it together on a thing pretty hard but not like really hard. Heatshrink with el cheapo heat gun.

Re: Positive battery cable assembly

So I was thinking have this company make the cables with the correct lengths and eyelet terminals. Get a fuse holder and re-use those weather pack terminals. Get a pair of top post Military style battery posts. Bam. I added all the lengths for the negative and positive cables and it came out to like $60. So maybe another $30 in other parts and I am set.

Re: Positive battery cable assembly

If you're doing your own cables, I'd go at least 2/0 AWG. Can't have too big of battery cables.

I didn't go through Hawk's. I got mine straight from the source. Quality product.

Re: Positive battery cable assembly

Here's a thread that has some good info. I bought mine from Gary Clark via Innovative Wiring directly without going through Hawk's.

That sucks. He did very nice work. Maybe he only does them in batches for Hawk's, or they bought his remaining inventory.

Re: Positive battery cable assembly

I would normally offer to make Power Cables, but I am currently not taking any Customers due to health issues.

Please take a look at CE Auto Electric's Website.
They offer Custom Power Cables via a Configurator on the Site.

Good luck!

Re: Positive battery cable assembly

I also have cables from Innovative Wiring, about 10 years now, so I haven't checked out his site lately, but I just did a search. Looks like Gary's life has been turned upside down over the last couple of years. His website is apparently not available, nor is the site's email address, so he may or may not still be in business. My search returned this post by Gary with an email address to reach him, on a web forum from one year ago, and I've copied and pasted it below:

Innovative wiring, what happened

Always checked Gary's site on Google. Now all I get is GoDaddy and cant seem to go any further. Any body know whats up or what Im doing wrong? Just in case I dont do Facebook, Period!

Hello,
So, The website is down and it looks like my @ innovativewiring.com email is also down.
(not sure if it will be back up or not)
Please email me at cruisingitnow@gmail.com.

Long story short is I will try and continue to help out the B-Body family.

The last couple of years have been pretty ruff,
My wife was diagnosed with colon cancer and so we have been dealing with surgery's and treatments.
My youngest son Passed away unexpected Sept 2021 and I have my daughter in law and 2 grandkids living with us 2 and 6.
(he took care of all my web stuff and I do not have the info needed for access nor do I have the mental energy to deal with it)
And it looks like I will have to have another back surgery. (So standing to build harness is not always possible)

So I will build when I can. Hope you all understand.
