I have a 1987 Firebird 5.7 TPI and I noticed this wire hanging underneath the dash on the driver's side. It appears to be a factory wire, but I can't figure out what it connects to. I tried tracing the other end of the wire to see what it connects to, but it's buried up in the dash somewhere and I can't get access to it. I initially though it may have been for the radio, but there's an aftermarket radio in the car and I don't notice any loose wires.
I need to see a better Image of the Terminal that is on that Wire.
GM/ Packard Electric/ Delphi used Terminals like that for the Electrical Connectors that would make contact with the Sheet/ Printed-Circuits for the Instrument Panel Clusters in our Cars.
That looks machine terminated or whoever did it was very skilled. My guess is it's from the gauge cluster. Why it's not with its friends and just hanging like that, not telling. These are Delphi PC edge board terminals used on the cluster connectors...
Looks like it might be the PINK wire that was originally installed in the BLACK plug for the original radio. This would be battery voltage OUT of the radio TO the Power Antenna Relay; used to turn on the relay to extend the antenna.
The pink wire sends power to the amp for the Performance Sound System option, which your Firebird may or may not have (would have a GAIN switch on the lower dash), and the wires in the grey plug have that terminal on them. You said the car has an aftermarket radio installed, so it makes sense that the wire to the amp probably wouldn't have been used.
